Hi all
I would like to start hunting niche-related valuable expired domains (with high trusted BL ecc...) and make a 301 redirect to the main site, instead of building a PBN.

Does this still work?

It depends on a lot of factors.

Is the domain, the expired one clean and never used for any sort of spam? Is the content on both of the sites the same?

I think the best thing to learn is by doing.

However, here are my 2 cents. I tried a couple of months ago, bought 6 spammy domains and redirected to one landing page, waited around a month, the DA of the new domain went to 40 but there weren't any ranking change. While with this method 2-3 years ago I was making a killing.

So 301 redirects don't work as they used to. Should you take this as definitive answer. Def. no

I still have domains only powered with 301 redirects that work great.

Hope it makes sense.

Mhh.. i realized i didn't write my question in the right way...

Expired domains have:
- same niche
- no spam footprints
- when online had great content
- high trust
- very good BL value

putting a 301 does make sense or PBN is always the best choice?

I ask cause sometimes clients don't have much budget to pay for a good PBN

The 301 technique is wasteful and risky nowadays. It simply does not work like it used to. You're much better off sticking the domains in a PBN.

My thoughts exactly. It depends on the quality of what you're about to use. Also, what works for one user might not work on your end. So, it's always better to try it. What's there to lose, anyway?

Tried and tested - the technique works, just that you need extra vetting when it comes to that expired domain respectively. Also, the expired domain may provide less of a link juice, try those that are pending expiry, which are still being held by the domain registrar, those would have much better link juice as compared to the expired one. Normally the expired ones have already been vetted by the pros - it's tough to find a good one, as a good one is normally grabbed at the pending expiry stage by others who are doing the same thing as you. You'd be amazed at what some of these pros would pay for these pending expiry domains. If it does not add value, then it shouldn't reflect the high amount of money that they are willing to bid for the pending expiry domain. So with the high payment involved - I'm sure you can take a hint at the value that it can contribute. I normally use TF>25 and PA/DA>35 as my initial metrics when vetting for a good expiring domain.

Indeed indexed domains work better for 301, however you can get an expired domains in the index by simply putting the nameservers up. There are plenty of decent expired (dropped) domains actually. Almost no one really bid for domains with 30-40 RDs, especially on GoDaddy when this easily can cost you 30-40 just for their (outrages) fees, nor $69/$79 for dropcatch, so its relatively easy to get such domain, register, put the nameservers, wait to get back in the index, 301 redirect, profit. Also fuck the DA and TF, meaningless shits they are.
