Hey everyone. I got my hands on some expired domains with really good backlinks but unfortunately they are completely unrelated to my niche. For example my niche is Mountain Bikes the domains are for Texas Political Campaigns.

Could I still 301 redirect these to my page and reap the benefits of the backlinks. I know now with google loving varied anchor text it might go through unpunished.

Also could I direct to a page within my homepage like ww_w.examplemountainbikes._com/hybridbikes and still reap the benefits of raising my pages authority and rankings.

    Cheers

    Vlad

There will be several discussion related to this, but i know, everyone is entitled to their own ideas.

Personally, i would advice you to get two website related to the same topic, then try this on another site and see how it works.
I don't think it's wisdom, trying out a 50-50 method on a money website. If you loss, you'll loss everything.

Personally, i wouldn't try this on my website.

There would be tempoary benefits to your money site, but it appears to sell off baldy on the long run.

I'd suggest putting Sedo parking on them for the time being until you make up your mind on more you want to do.

I would focus on niche relevant, as the entire SEO industry is heading that way. However, it wouldn't be a bad thing to try.

I guess everyone has their own opinion but i removed all my 301s. I felt like it diluted my anchor profile and I did not see any serp rise. They were good charity domains with great authority.

Hmm ok I think im getting a sort of consensus here. I also found this reply from a credible source . "PBN success rate is like 95% after testing. 301's are like 60%. " So what I am going to do tomorrow is put up a quick wordpress site, pump out 1500 words in 2 articles and put my keyword in there. Unless we get someone here swearing by 301's that can change my mind seems like its all been negative experiences

You can try it out on some different site for a time being.
Later on, you can change it to money site.

This. Or don't even mess with it. Typically is not worth it.

You're going to have to test it yourself, OP. I don't think you can just take the word of a random poster here anyway, so testing always makes sense.

Put a 1k-2k word article up related to your niche. I use spun content for this.

Buy some cheap links like high PR blog comments and web 2.0s all with anchor text targeting your niche to the 301 domain.

Let that sit for 1-2 weeks then 301 it.

    Works everytime.

Certainly not going to get into a debate, especially with the amount of clowns who think they know the ins and outside of SEO because they read Charlie 'nonce' Floates blog. But anyhow 301's from none niche relevant websites still have a good impact on SEO. As do 301 short URL which so happen to be none niche relevant, as do domain names that are not even related to any niche via domain name.

Building a quick site is always better than having 301. The site is always your valuable asset. And then you put up an article about Texas politicians and add a paragraph about how one of them likes sports and biking. Voilà!

When building a pbn site, you can change the context. If you just 301 it, it will look like you are only trying to take advantage of the links.

If you build the site, you can easily say "Texas Politician X promises to make Texas No. 1 in mountain biking" - might be false but it won't be picked up for being unrelated by Google.

301 is no good for seo

link the domains together by a good worded long article for both niches, then link together. this way you get bikers who care about politics going over to the bike site.

There have tons of good expired domains relevant to bikes, so why you loosing your time (and possible money). BTW I will be happy to see the result of your experiments.
301 redirect from one domain to other means moving your site on new domain to save the ranking (traffic) and link's juice.

I will advice to check the domain in majesticseo to see the top pages - while the domain is relevant, there have huge chance to have pages/subdomains with very good authority, that will pass some of your site category. So instead wild card redirect, you can redirect expired domains homepage to your site homepage and the page that passed category from the expired domain to the category of your site. There have expired domains, that have pages with authority higher then domain's homepage (moz page authority). Some domains have 10s of pages like that.

Plz stop spreading this bad info.

Saying 301's are no good is almost as bad as saying SEO is dead.

just dropped big bucks on an auctioned niche related government domain (urban planning) and was planning on redirecting it to an ecommerce site (home & garden) but now I'm not too sure. Judging from the responses here, best thing to do would be to set up a pbn, hit it up with niche relevant backlinks then 301 redirect to money site later on?

Yeah that might work. Just make sure the content are indexed on Google and let it for a week or so before you 301 the whole thing to your moneysite.
