Does 301 expired domain help rank new site well?

Niche has decent compitition.I see few top ranking players in that same niche has redirected expired to their post and now they are ranking well for the query.

Quick question?
Should i do the same ?
would that help me in ranking if i do the same?
If yes, should i buy the similar niche domain [i know similar domain will make lot difference but finding it is a quite a task] or should i go with any niche domain which has decent link profile (spam free) authority link pointing to it.

Did anybody here use this strategy? [any experience people can comment below if someone has implement it and got the good ranking without any penalty or manual action let me know how exactly you have done it ]

Any other advice on the same topic is also welcome...

hi i have sold 100's of expired domain in past for 301 redirect backlink and i am still not much very sure of their performance. i have some clients who told me they are not working . May be you can use expired domain for PBN . i think that will help in ranking much better .you can pm me your competitor website and i can give you more info on this

Pretty much this ^^

301s are not what they used to be and it's not like you can just take any random (even if niche relevant) domain and just redirect it. It's tad complicated than that. Unless you have completely relevant domain in, at least $200+ price range, then do not even bother.
