What's the difference between expired domains that are dropped vs expired domains that are from auction?

Read somewhere that dropped expired domains has zero SEO benefits while auctioned domains do have benefits.

Would like to see other people's opinion on it.

Not necessarily. You can still find expired domains with backlinks form big sites but 99% are abused so you should be extra careful when picking one.

Well, you can get expired dropped domains with backlinks from top news site.

Generally the best domains are monitored and purchased as soon as they are free. You can still find interesting areas if you lower your standards a little.
