It is a great niche. There are a lot of plant lovers in different parts of the world. Just focus on sharing knowledgeable content.
gardening niche looks great to me for lots of reasons
less competition than many other niches -- incredibly passionate (and large) audience -- the day-to-day work is fulfilling (humans love growing plants, its primal)

Every niche is worthy & profitable if you can find out super low competitive keywords. As you mentioned your niche is plant, I want to add that many people are fascinated in that particular niche. That can be for business or decorating their houses. You can not only target plants, you can target planting tools, plant maintaining tools, medicines, fertilizers etc related to plants.
As I do keyword research from long period of time, I suggest you not to only focus on KD and determine it's easy to rank. You can search manually and see if there are any opportunity to be in the list even if KD is higher of the keyword. This is called in-depth research. Hope you got some decent ideas and now you can move on with that niche.
Earning opportunities: Google Adsense, Amazon, E-commerce etc

I know for sure that succulents are all the rage nowadays—these are specialized plants in the cactus family.
There are a lot of die-hard buyers in that niche.
There are also many sub-niches in that topic category.
You can monetize it through specialized affiliate programs, like—for example—selling soil, especially formulated soil.
I know all of this firsthand because my wife is a big-time succulents fan.
And let me tell you: she only needs to see an ad on Facebook for me to see the entry on our credit card; it really is amazing.
And, guess what? She’s not alone.
She has a lot of friends that show up for live cactus and succulents selling on Facebook.
It is a big niche.
So if you're into plants, pay attention to existing demand.
