Because it doesn’t work great in all niches.
In political news niche, super easy to do.
In other less fast paced methods, not as good.

you won’t get a penalty, but it makes link building different, it makes your SEO plan different.
If you just treat it like any other site with well focus written content, you’ll fail, then come here saying “it doesn’t work”

Course it works. Just don't make your site to look like autoblog. Make a new aggregator, for example. Like Google News, Yahoo News or Bing News. Technically they are autoblogs, but they call them news aggregators

do you think google spider is so stupid and can not crawl your wp- directories and see that you have an autoblog plugin installed?

and when you your wp directories hidden (hacker see a blank page) but not the google crawler.
They see what plugins you have installed on your site.

Not use such plugins cu can make it easy semi-automatic and rewrite content and do curation then you are on the more safe google seo side.
