These are the really simple ones for starters:
1. Make sure to really think out your inital title and meta before you index or allow indexing
2. Make sure that you redirect everything to the same domain the main domain, http://www.yy.com is different than yy.com www is a subdomain
3. Once you get SSL you need to update your webmaster canonicals etc to reflect that
4. Make sure that you have a SEO structure in place for your posts especially in the title
5. Excerpt doesnt work a lot of times in Yoast SEO but thats fine because Google takes the excerpt anyway in a sense for meta description
6. Before submitting to webmaster make sure to use somethin glike moz chrome extension to actually double check that you have the right title and description on the pages as you planned, ive seen times where poeple have two titles because one is in yoast seo and one is in general settings etc
7. Don't make your URLS very long with categories etc just title name is best
8. ALT IMAGE TAGS, there are plugins that will make sure all your images have alt tags and titles its a freebie
9. Make sure to have proper H1 H2 etc
10. REGIONALIZE YOUR POSTS, so for a certain category region you may include location in the SEO in someway, etc that makes it so yo ucatch the long tail keywords
11. Dont forget bing as stupid as it is or yandex webmater tool submission
12.Plugins for internal links within your articles, easy to find and absoultey essential, as are read more plugins
Hope this gets you guys started, if this interests you and it actually helped some people I can break down some things about basic plugins that allow for automated page creation that will really help with long tail keywords etc.
