I need to purchase a domain and it is only available in .org will this have a negative effect on rankings and SEO with bing?

there is no difference between the generic extensions

of course , for local extensions, it is, eg if you get .co.uk you should rank better in UK

There's no difference on such. You can rank them both using the same strategies. Everything just depends on your execution.

I usually go for .com, if it's not available, then .net or .org. All three are good to rank.
