Dose the TLD matter?

I was making a portfolio site for a design business, but cant afford a dot com so I was going to buy a dot site for 88 cents from name cheap.
I was also going to make a blog, would a weird tld effect it's ranking?

no, I dont think so. But a .com is more trustable for the visitor.

the .com is only more common but i don't believe it has anything to do with ranking. i have seen websites ranking for terms that get 5M+ searches on google with .xyz extension so... it doesn't matter much really.

Do a search for anything on all of the major Search engines.
Then look at what comes up on the first page.
You'll get your answer...

TLD Doesn't Matter.
Peoples Actually Less Believe On Site Which Use Other Extension Many Trusted & Reputed Companies Use TLD's Only.

BTB It Make Me Confuse If You Can Afford $.88 For .site Extension Than How Can't You Afford $.99 For .com

Godaddy Always Have Offers .com at $.99 For First Time Customers

As other have said, there's no real difference from the perspective of search engines. The most important thing is how your users perceive the site and .com TLDs are generally the most trustworthy.

The one thing that TLD might influence, however, is for geolocated searches. If you want to target a specific country, a .us/.ca/.de/other TLD may help you. I haven't personally tested this, but have heard others say that it can help with geolocated sites.

Causation vs. correlation. Most of the best sites have .com domains, but that isn't why they're the best and highest ranking sites. There's a correlation, but it's not caused by the sites having .com TLDs.
