What To Consider Before Buying Expired Domain?

Is there any way to measure the spam score of Expired Domain, as IDK whether it's possible or not? Surely, I can check their backlink profile manually but if there is a tool (No Matter it's premium or free) then maybe it will be easier. Thanks!
Check the following free tools for metrics:

Ahrefs DR & some backlinks -

It gives you a basic idea to know whether the domain was abused in the past. If you find adult/pharma/gambling etc links or anchors, then stay away from the domain.

Moz DA/PA/Spam score, Domain age, No. of indexed URLs, Majestic TF/CF etc. -

I have shortlisted some expired domains. Some domains have a decent number of backlinks. Even some sites still have some visitors. My ultimate goal is to buy them and redirect ( 301 permanent redirects ) those domains to my main sites. Now, My question is: how can I know that Google did not penalize those domains in the past?

Folks, Your opinion/suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Do a thorough manual spam check on those domains.
Check the anchor text, links, Wayback google index.
Here's a detailed guide

Check if the domain is still indexed on Google by using site:domian.com
Check wayback history, check the backlinks and overall make sure it is relevant before redirecting.

site:mydomian.com is showing 3-4 pages are still indexed on Google. Is it okay?

@Ed Roy , the problem is that you can't check manual actions of Google, the only way is to register the domain and set up GSC. I had few cases like this, sad...

Got it, but the worst thing about this process is, it will take some sort of time. At least 2-4 weeks to understand the behavior.

If you are buying expired EMDs then check if the domain was active before 2012 and got inactive after 2012 - at that time Google lunched an EMD penalty - the domain might got penalized if u see after 2012 it was not live/inactive/for sale
How will i check this?

Surely you need to check the website past archives and Must be haven the clean links (link on relevant sites), I consider the site metics next step.

One of the main reasons for purchasing an expired domain is the authority it has as an established site. You don’t want a domain that is expiring after just one year. Check the monthly traffic too. Don’t go for it if only a handful of visitors visit.
