I have shortlisted some expired domains. Some domains have a decent number of backlinks. Even some sites still have some visitors. My ultimate goal is to buy them and redirect ( 301 permanent redirects ) those domains to my main sites. Now, My question is: how can I know that Google did not penalize those domains in the past?

Folks, Your opinion/suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

So many info on the forum for expired domain. Just do a quick research and you will find some gems

For 301 you want to go super relevant.

Check the history of the domain to see if it wasn't misused.

Unfortunately the only sure way to know is to host it and see how it performs organically.

First of all, Thanks for your valuable advice. The best thing is all the domain I have shortlisted is highly relevant. Almost every domain is the EMD (Exact Match Domain) domain. The way you have mentioned above seems legit, but it will take some time. I will definitely give it a try, If I won't figure out any other less lengthy process. Again, Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Will definitely deep dive into the forum to find the hidden gems.

If you are buying expired EMDs then check if the domain was active before 2012 and got inactive after 2012 - at that time Google lunched an EMD penalty - the domain might got penalized if u see after 2012 it was not live/inactive/for sale

surely you want pre-release rather than expired....
Absolutely not, my brother. To be honest, My website is doing good in my chosen niche, if not the best. Now I just want to increase the domain authority in the eyes of google. That's it :)

Thanks man for the information. Highly Appreciate you. I am going to check it right now.

Two or Three domains were disappearing near around the same time as 2012. Most of the domains became expired in 2018 and mid-2019.

  1. Relevancy
  2. The number of referring domains.
  3. Percentage of ******** links
  4. Past history
  5. Anchor text distribution
  6. Clean link profile.
  7. If count the third party metrics, then - DR, DA, TF, and CF.
There are many other things to check, but it's the basic one.

Clean link profile.
Is there any way to measure the spam score of Expired Domain, as IDK whether it's possible or not? Surely, I can check their backlink profile manually but if there is a tool (No Matter it's premium or free) then maybe it will be easier. Thanks!

Check if the domain is still indexed on Google by using site:domian.com
Check wayback history, check the backlinks and overall make sure it is relevant before redirecting.

I think you should use some of traffic estimate tools to find the real traffic of the expired domains

make sure your expired domain has things relevant to your website. otherwise 301 is no use. Good Luck sir.
