Hi all,

When you SILO do you recommend to use Posts or Pages?

Really having a hard time understanding this

My site content is on Posts, structured by Categories
URL Example:

Site.com/main-category/sub-category/sub-category-reviews/post

--------------

However, I also have Pages where people can navigate into when they check my site/ Maybe this is only for UI/UX purposes instead?
URL Example:

Site.com/main-page/sub-page/sub-page-reviews/show all posts

Then post URL will still be:
Site.com/main-category/sub-category/sub-category-reviews/post

Is this a good approach to SILO?

Also, any tips on how to shorten URL? I have a Perma Link Manager Pro plugin - but still learning it and quite confused

Would really appreciate your help guys

Thanks,
Josh Saga

i cant comment much on the url structure, but one thing i found out, when i switched some content from post to page format, keeping the same url, i had an easier time to rank. i think this was due to the fact that page does not have those sidebar items like post pages do.

by no way this was a scientific test, just an observation from my side.

I've always done a mixture so as not to have the same pattern. I've done things randomly to avoid a footprint. Dunno if it makes a difference though.

Page or post makes absolutely NO difference at all in ranking, that's just a feature in WordPress that was developed because WordPress evolved from just powering simple blogs (which use posts) to full custom websites (which use pages). It's a concept to make it easier for people to design websites - if you have a blog section, each of those blog posts is a post; everything else is a page.

In terms of ranking and silo, only the URL structure matters and the interlinking done between those URL-s. And obviously the content on those URL-s. So, feel free to use whatever you want, pages or posts.

Posts have a clear date which can be relevant to ranking. So if you have like "best ... 2021" probably the date matters and it should be a post.
Other that that I don't think it makes a difference.

I'm kinda stuck on this myself.

But according to Matt Diggity in "The Affiliate Lab", it's better to use page for money pages and posts for linkbait content. Because with pages you can control the subdirectories (you can choose which page as parent page, kinda like categories but without category and archive pages?). With posts you will have categories, archives, which can get messy (I guess?).

Idk, I'm trying to figure out silo and page vs post myself, still looking around for answers.

Older thread, but I would like to know the answer to this....

Can anyone answer this?

I be not so sure about ; "pages or posts makes no differents"

You know that google sort/organize content?
Do you not hear about "content types"?

pages = is a own content type
post = is an own content type
video= is an own content type
podcast= the same.....

But these are all different content types, different from each other look into schema markup, why that thing exist ?
A youtube video is a complete different content type than your wordpress post where your video is uploaded/ or embedded.

So when google organize his huge library then you can be sure, they organizing content types .
With this a website with good structure or good organized content types will rank better than the others who not doing this. I be sure.... or it gives you a better more slide edge seo ranking...
