I have been doing local search in a very very competitive industry for the past 2 years. In this time I have developed a number of good techniques that many people are not utilizing. So Im going to give a ew tips out here every week.........
1.) When Creating the listing use all 5 categories, I prefer 1 pre determined big G category and 4 custom categories. Research your keywords before and make sure the maps are coming up in the search results.

2.) Use all 10 photos when creating, 2 photos for each category named appropriately. IE if your catagory is chimney sweep and your located is Dallas. title the image "Chimney-Sweep-Dallas-Texas-1.png" and the 2nd "Chimney-Sweep-Dallas-Texas-2.png"

3.) Create 5 simple videos using related images, I prefer to use iMovie. iMovie exports directly to Youtube so the process is painless. When submitting the video make sure the whole address citation with the phone number, and a link to your site are in the description. Use these videos in the local there are 5 total spots available.

Thats it for today but tune in monday for a couple more advanced tips!!

    ______________________________________________

Changed my mind heres a couple more......

4.) To take #3 a step farther submit those videos using traffic geyser, tubemogul etc. to submit to multiple video directories..... each posted video will pull a citation to the big G local giving it a huge boost!

5.) Submit Images to panoramio at the address that you used in the local, in the description of the photo put the address citation exactly how it reads in the business profile.

6.) Submit a related article to one of the bigger articles sites using the most difficult keyword that you have, I prefer ezine myself. In the resource box make sure you put the address citation and phone number. Big G will actually pulls keywords directly from the article giving you business listing more visibility and will rank for mor ethan just the 5 categories provided!

    New Tip of the Day!
Create or Buy a nice article for your niche, Submit it to Ezine and in the resource box place the phone Number and Company name exactly how its written it the g00gle local. Make sure to ping the article once it goes live and boom you have one of the strongest citations that you can get. Sometimes g00gle will even use the text in the article to pull extra keywords and content, I have started ranking for keywords that weren't categories after using this method.

How long is it taking for the citations for the videos and articles to show up on average?

I would say 20-30 days but industry can affect that timeframe... the best way to judge how your local reacts is to record the last time your local updated and record it so you can have a better idea on the timeframe... Rember locals can be some of the slowest to change in terms of SERP's just remember to be patient and make sure that all citations between videos, directory listings, atocles and the profile itself must be exactly the same. For instance having a phone number of XXX-XXX-XXXX on a directory and (XXX) XXX-XXXX on the google profile can cause a citation to not attach or possibly fall off. The best method of preventing this is get a service like pingler and ping all of you citations every week or two. With Pingler you can set it up to do this automatically for $3.99 per month

What do you mean by the "last time your local updated"? The last time I pinged a directory submission or article? Something else?

    Thanks for your help.

Great info, I just did a random search for something and found a company was using a building which looks vacant and is up for lease. I haven't looked much into local search but is this a good idea for people who work out of their home?

I'm interested in local search SEO.
Don't know if you want to create a step by step training video how to get rank in local search 7 box using your techniques ? I'm willing to pay for it if the price is not too expensive.

    Thanks,

I have also started to get great results implementing these methods - along with a great paid resource that has been guaranteeing me a place in the 7Box for ANY local keyword no matter the competition!

These methods work so go take action and see for yourself

These are some good tips. Thanks given.

It is true that Google Locals will take a little bit longer to update, but in my experience once you are there, you are there for a while. Especially if you keep building on it.

I have had some listings on the front page in less then 15 days, which is the fastest. If it is competitive it will take me 3 to 6 months to get to the number 1 spot.

A lot of things matter with Google Locals that does not matter with SEO and vice/versa. If you are having troubles, just check out the competition. Honestly that is probably the best way to get ranked on the locals, is copying ++++ on your competition.

    New Tip of the Day!
Today's tip is more strategy based, doing research on your competitors local listings is very important. Industry related citations hold a high weight, but not all directories will attach with the listing. For instance if you have a salon's listing and you filled out a directory for contractors it will not attach. At the same time there are many small directories out there that are industry specific and somewhat difficult to find. So do your research before just jumping in to the local game. I'm also including some of the best directories that easily attach to local listings

    1.) Insiderpages
    -Reviews also attach
-Make sure to maxamize the effectiveness by filling out the message from the owner will the full 4,000 characters using a highley keyworded out description
    2.) Brownbook
-Can give you site up to 100 links if you maximize the custom keywords and locations.
    3.) Citysearch
-Reviews Attach and is a powerful link
    4.) Hotfrog
    - Custom keywords and locations, make sure to fill out the products and services pages.
    5.) Guidespot
    - Make sure to use the widgets to maximize the listing
    6.) Local dot com
    - Sales team is absolutely the most annoying in the US
    7.) yellowbot
    - index quicly
    8.) Cityvoter
-Be patient and listing info is manually checked, only for white hat companies
    9.) Judysbook
    -Reviews attach
-one of the fastest to index
    10.) Superpages
    -Add every catagory possible
-Write an extensive description as it will attch inside the listing

Always make sure to add photos when doing these listings!
