I see everyone saying to join engagement groups, however from the couple rounds I've been in all they've done is bring my likes up but have had 0 impact on my follower count or retention. Is there a trick to this? I mainly use tags that have 20-100k posts with a few up to 500k and only 5 that are super large like 1M+.

I think you are using hashtags with too many posts. Use a combination of small, longtail, big and large hashtags
I think I may have found the reason. Whilst I'm logged into my account it shows that I am in the top posts for some tags, however when I search those tags using an incognito browser not logged in I am not showing even in the most recent section. I have no idea why this is the case.

@LumGGs did you search down the "Most Recent" section to see if you can see your posts? Maybe it's not recent anymore after other IG accounts have posted more recent photos after your post
I checked through a few of the lower post tags I tagged and there were posts from 4-5 days ago that were still showing in "Most Recent" and mine from today and yesterday weren't there. It's weird. I've tried contacting IG through FB and their IG DM but that probably won't result in anything.

@LumGGs Instagram is not doing it by time anymore. It's by relevance and they jumble it up in a random order, including yours unfortunately.

Day 6:
Almost a week and so far these are the statistics for both Automatic and Manual profiles. I have done some over the weekend but I was mostly occupied with some other tasks that I had to attend to

Automatic(March):
Made it less aggressive so I would not risk getting banned while I let it run over the weekend.
+14 Followers, -310 Following
Manually(October):
Followed/Unfollowed between 100-120 Saturday and Sunday, made a couple of comments with my old and new followers and kept the engagement going still betwen 10-14%
+91 Followers, +82 Following
I cannot wait to do a full week update tomorrow. I'm almost at 1000 followers for the manual account so my first goal is close to achieving. I know many of you can reach this goal no problem. I am trying my best since it is my first time being familiar with IG and its parameters. I am most definitely having more fun doing IG manually than automated so far! However, things can change if I adjusted the bot that I'm using for the Automated profile that may or may not surpass the Manual profile.

Week 1 Update!
Hey guys so I have finally made it through a week of doing IG with two accounts, trying both automated and manually. Here are the results below:
Automated(March)
Day 1:
Followers: 404
Following: 126
Today(Week 1):
Total gained in a week: +266 Followers, +696 Following
Manually(October):
Day 1:
Followers: 698
Following: 197
Today(Week 1):
Total Gained in a week: +293 Followers, +520 Following
***I'm so close to gaining 1,000 followers! Wow! Hopefully by tomorrow I can surpass that mark
What have I learned this week. As you can see, the stats are pretty close. The manual profile is leading by a hair, with the method of following, unfollowing and leaving a few comments. The automated profile isn't so bad either. However, it has more following than followers. I might adjust my ratio a bit tonight before I go to bed to make it more aggressive.
I'll do weekly updates for now on. I hope I am doing a good job and giving you guys an insight between doing automation vs manual maintenance of IG. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Also, any recommendations and tips are more than welcomed considering this is my first time managing IG accounts.

Looking great man! How are you going about finding target accounts to engage and follow on for both the automated account and when you are manually searching? I seem to have pretty mediocre followback rates for both which makes me believe that I may be looking at or targeting the wrong things.

I usually go with accounts that have more than 50k followers but less than 1 million. For example, my automated one is in politics. I usually search for big political figures that are in my niche, go through their following, follow/unfollow and like their pictures. I set up FL to do that. Comments I do manually in both automated and manual profiles. I think of a genuine comment that relates to their picture, not the typical BS "Nice pic" comment.
To be honest, you have to be interactive in order to get a decent followback rates. I have noticed that the last few days of my weeks and today I just passed 1,000 followers!!
You can do it. Be persistent, do the methods, be interactive with your followers, and you'll see your numbers increase
Thanks for the great advice man and congrats on the big 1k! The problem I'm trying to figure out now is why I keep disappearing from hashtags. I've tried hashtags on my main and dummy account and they work on the dummy but if I post them on the main, it shows up for all of 30 seconds in the tag then disappears. This is killing my exposure to new people.

@LumGGs Not to sure what the problem is. I knew Instagram does random selections but your dummy account is working fine. Should make a thread about your case to see anyone else had or can resolve that problem.
@David Jones I haven't start to monetize yet but it is one of my goals. Since I passed the 1,000 mark, I'm going to look for an engagement group and see how that works

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!
The two toenails are growing a fine pace. However I did make some adjustments of the FL program this past week in a little more "aggressive" settings. Here were the results so far:
Automated(March):
Total gained in 2 weeks: +538 Followers, +1,027 Following
Manually(October):
Total gained in 2 weeks: +482 Followers, +672Following
I just joined an engagement group and will try it out tonight with my manual account since it's past 1,000. I will be active on it at least once or sometimes twice a week. The Manual one is a bit more serious than the Automated one so I do have some loyal followers who are also my friends in real life that I contact.
What should I expect to happen over the course of being active in an engagement group?
My next goals are: 1,000 followers in my automated account, 5,000 followers in my manual account, and setting up a website for each "toenail".

Sounds like you got shadowbanned. I have had multiple pictures show for me in "top posts" for a bunch of different hashtags and those images showed up in "top" and "recent" when viewed incognito/logged out. However I did notice that when tagging older images with geoloc after the fact (and probably due to not being in that physical location at the time of posting) there was a significant drop in likes (no one was reall commenting on the images). But as always YMMV.
