unfollowing

Hello, im using follow/unfollow tactic to grow my account. When should you start to unfollow ? I see accounts following 2-3k users, isnt that too much ? Shouldnt you start unfollowing regularly ? Or is it better to wait and to unfollow later so the users dont see they got unfollowed ? thanks
