Google Update - May 27th 2022 - What I Have Noticed

What's your plan of action?

I've got a really bad feeling about this latest update.

I'm going to improve the UX of the website and try some alternative advertising methods.

I'm not sure if I should bother continue link building. Tough decisions ahead.
Honestly, I would advise just starting on a new website and doing something entirely different, while at the same time maintaining the affected site because who knows it may return.

If we're already hit in the first place, it means our strategy has failed or Google isn't factoring whatever we've done as "good".

So might as well start an entirely new project but with a different strategy - whether is it more backlinks (blackhat like PBN or not), or more informative content, or a different onpage/offpage SEO strategy such as interlinking, and so on. It also requires us to review whatever we've done in the past: are we using cookiecutting templates for titles? Are we abiding EAT practises, and so on. From there, a different strategy and approach. And of course, lots of reading... What I've observed so far is members here have been sharing that their sites that uses lots of PBN backlinks have survived, if not, thriving even more than before. So that may be on the table for the next site.

You can try paid ads but I wouldn't advise for now as most webmasters who are affected are going to desperately opt for paid ads in droves. And not to mention, coincidentally, Google have been offering Adwords coupons and promos.

To be honest with you, it is a very dire and uncertain period... Because of the mass inflation going on and people saving up than spending, our returns will definitely be hampered along with this Google core hit + throttling. And with Google's unconfirmed updates going on now, we can't assess the whole situation fully.

But one thing for sure is we have to focus and do other projects rather than sitting and praying it will return... Better not waste the days hoping but taking action.

Thank you for that informative and thorough reply. Much appreciated.

Funnily enough, Google Ad strategists were coming on strong during this update. Very persistent in trying to get us to spend more.

I do wonder - does Google punish e-commerce webmasters that are not spending x amount on Ads. I thought they were above that but who knows these days.

Has anyone looked at site explorer in ahrefs lately? (i had forgotten i had the free version until I saw a note in this thread).

There is an amazing amount of sites that link in that are either the answer-type site that has tons of info or these new ones that shows the top say one million sites so they are useless to say the least(i found within minutes more than a dozen that appear to be an identical site). Could those affect things since we as site owners obviously have no control over those things popping up daily? Those things look so spammy but I would think Google would figured it out fairly easily and isn't a reason to penalize real sites.

This update is absolutely non-sense.

Has anyone experienced a drop like this and are any solutions to recover? My website has 100% on Google page speed, but still doesn't pass Web Vitals, can it be an issue? Any steps from now, or should I wait till the next update?

Any ideas?

I did and I suggest you leave this website be until the next update. Since you've lost so many kws and traffic, Google will no longer trust your domain for a long time. Posting more content would be madness at this point.

I advise you to rewrite your existing content on the domain that got hit, and repost it on a brand new domain. That, or start another website from scratch. Better yet, move on to something that doesn't solely rely on Google for traffic.

Nobody knows for sure what this update targeted and it's impossible to know. I expect more updates like this in the near future.

Anyone affected noticing a spike in traffic from yesterday and especially today?

Yes, This week also new update. Every Monday we get at least avg 86,000+ impression and 1900+ clicks, this Monday only 76,000 impression and 1500 clicks.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I was able to optimise my pages and get 95-99 score for mobile and 100 points for desktop but still not pass the CWV in my GSC. Maybe Google just take a vacation?))

A new joke update is rolling out....
Before Monday i thought it couldn't be worster, well looks like i was wrong.

Tbh i was almost sure that rollout is over and we reach the bottom, and soon we will start to see some grow, but now...
Some of the projects where i had 15K a day now became, like IncomeSchool call it, a ghost town.

What I have noticed in the serps (and on YouTube) is lots more newer/smaller sites/channels showing up.

It seems as though G is trying to give other sites/channels a chance to gain more exposure.

In my client niche, I saw a DR8 site #1 in the ranking and all the other sites are DR50+.

On YouTube, I have been seeing some random small channels show up on the sidebar.

So maybe they have heard all the complaints about G only showing big sites and companies and they are trying to shake it up?
If that's the case, is good news for me.
