Hi guys, I just thought I would share my findings up to now.....

Content quality seems to be the determining factor in my rankings.

I have 2 websites.

1 site is losing rankings (good quality content)

1 site is gaining rankings (best quality content)

I wrote the content for both of my websites.

My second site (the one that is gaining rankings) has better quality content than the first (since I got better at writing over time).

This could just be coincidence, but its something I've noticed.

Maybe this is to combat websites pumping out tons of mediocre AI content ?

What is the average word count per article?

I've noticed that aside from quality, long articles are exploding.

What I have noticed in the serps (and on YouTube) is lots more newer/smaller sites/channels showing up.

It seems as though G is trying to give other sites/channels a chance to gain more exposure.

In my client niche, I saw a DR8 site #1 in the ranking and all the other sites are DR50+.

On YouTube, I have been seeing some random small channels show up on the sidebar.

So maybe they have heard all the complaints about G only showing big sites and companies and they are trying to shake it up?

@homeriscool
We would appreciate if you could answer this.

On my sites I haven't noticed any real change, but some websites I looked at were hit very hard. Specifically one that went from a traffic of over 1.2m to 300k+.

That's the biggest drop I've seen, losing 70+% of traffic.

I think it's more than just content. Google can't properly read content, just because you write like Charles Dickens it doesn't make your blog about astronomy very good. On top of it, for example, wikipedia has lots of factual mistakes but it ranks well.
I know plenty of sites in my niche with average content and ranking just fine for years.

All, I can say for now, it's hard... google are shuffling the serps. We need more time to figure what's actually going on.

PS: "Maybe this is to combat websites pumping out tons of mediocre AI content ?" - this is an interesting point, let's wait and see.

That is what I have exactly noticed too.

2 of my big sites in a niche got hit, checked the Top competitors and they were hit too. On other hand, 1 of my baby site in the same niche saw some good movements and traffic, So who is winning if all the top authoritative sites in the same niche are getting hit? Google seems to be taking power from authority sites and distributing it among smaller sites. The Opposite of what happens in every update.

I am not sure, I guess we will have to wait to see more reactions and the update to end to conclude.

Something else I have noticed.....

My website that is gaining rankings is using strong pbn links.

My other website losing rankings is "whitehat" (forum links, guest posts, niche edits). Not exactly whitehat but no pbn links.

That's weird! This is also the first time the site has been hit in years.

Anyone else noticing similar patterns?

I have also noticed, after that update, a better ranking for websites (rather webpages) that have high quality content. Google's algorithms are ever dynamic now more than ever before. Do not ignore website internal linking, it plays a major role as well.
Some next update(s) may again change something. It mainly all revolves around factors that pertain to user (visitor) experience.

It was a very promising site. Everything was going so well lately until the update.

Damn that's tough. Especially if you wrote all of your own content. Did you have a lot of Amazon affiliate links?
Guest posts or niche edits?

Yes, had many buyer's guides with Amazon affiliate links. Was focused only on niche edits. Don't know how to avoid this as last year during this time another website of mine was penalized like this and then it started to grow again during the year. Now that site has fallen again.

I was speaking to a guy on here about 6 months back and he was telling me that all his whitehat sites get hit during updates and his blackhat sites are fine.

So I built 2 sites in the same niche, target same keywords etc.

My whitehat site is losing rankings and my blackhat site (pbn links) is gaining rankings.

Maybe good quality PBN is the way forward?

I've spent over 8k on niche edits, guest posts and forum links and that sites losing rankings.

I pay $170 per month for pbn links and they seem to be working.

Go figure?

That is great because I hate making mediocre AI content and I hate reading it too when I'm looking for some info and some compound robotic garbage is what's ranking.

Google has been watching this forum and is taking action.

Maybe the update is targetting just content. How's your content on both sites?

after facing many google updates, I generally see sites that go up at the start get back down in the end and vice versa to some extent. Why? before start of core update, google removes filters which lead to jump in spammy sites which again go down when filters are placed at the end. Also, if there are big unintentional changes after core update, google tweaks them during the update. So just wait and see.

I am seeing a lot of sites which are bad quality jumping in rankings for now over good sites. Hopefully, google will tweak the update and the filters at end should take care of the rest.

One site has better quality content than the other. The site that is performing the best has high quality content and PBN links.
