That's why I gave up on it over a year ago. The site loads fine so the users are fine.

I was back on page 4 and only on one page I removed an excessive amount of affiliate linksDid you make any changes? How hard were you affected in 1st place?
Interesting insights, especially 3. Noticed this tooI'll add a few words of my own:
1) Direct and branded traffic is very important.
Example. On one of the casino sites non-branded search queries were not growing, but as soon as they launched an affiliate program in Italy and users started searching for the casino name - non-branded traffic increased in all other locations.
2) It is important to constantly update content - at least once a month. Especially if you have review sites.
One of our clients, who grew up after the upgrade, regularly updates the site - as soon as he sees that the site is starting to loose position in Google - he doesn't put new links, he rewrites the content, a few paragraphs. It's a review site.
3) Backlinks don't work the same for different types of sites.
For example, links will easily take a Forbes article to the top, but those same links may have no effect if you have a review affiliate site.
This was the case with one of our clients - he has a news site and a review site. The links didn't work well on the review site, but when he posted an affiliate article on the news site and put the same backlinks to that article, the article ranked up very quickly.
OK, if competitors went down... who replaced them?Just took a look at my competitors in one niche, most of them lost traffic after the May update, some of them were brutally killed and lost ~90% of traffic and keywords. One even was a sort of a leader in the niche, but after 2 updates became a total loser. Such a graveyard of sites...
Good stuff... particularly #2. It is like this for me... I update a page and it goes up and then slowly starts to go down then I update again.I'll add a few words of my own:

Some bigger sites, probablyOK, if competitors went down... who replaced them?
It seems that sites with quality backlinks have stood up well to the update. Even with the higher quality articles, sites with no or insufficient quality backlinks have been hit hard. Here nothing improves ... long, unique and quality content but it seems that google does not care. Damn google already made me lose a lot of traffic on two sites...
I will keep adding content to see if it improves :S
Same thing. I think Google just testing something and hopefully they understand something is wrong so they start to revert their last commit))I had a temporary spike yesterday. but it's low again today. I'm not at all sure what google is doing.
