After reading to much nonsense in this thread I decided to explain some things.

Instagram botting will be easy until the end of 2019 when API v1 will be switched off.
With API v2 you won't be able to perform most of the actions including following/unfollowing.
Most of the requests will be encrypted.

Right now everyone uses app version 27.0.0.7.97 for simulating requests including GMT2 and Jarvee. That's because version 27.0 is the latest version that uses API v1.

For example, the newest version 58.0 use encrypted requests + API v2.

So everyone enjoys your botting, it will be very difficult and expensive at the end of 2019.

Mmmm I don't think botting Will be dead. Why? Because the entire point of IG is is following your friends, unfollowing them and posting your summer pics.

If people can do It, a bot can do It too (It will be more sophisticated, but why not?)

EDIT: very informative post, btw

Well, even if api based will shut down, browser based botting would still be alive but since it will use huge resources, yes that would be way too expensive to work with.

Nah it wont...As giants evolves so does marketers...If theres no way to make money anymore from one platform we will just switch to other...

It won't be totally dead but much more expensive and slower.

You can't do it that way with Instagram. Try to follow and unfollow with a browser and you will see.

We went through some major changes with "marketing" on FB a year and change back so you just have to pivot to see how to continue to "market".

No doubt there will always be changes as that is how this game is played, and to be honest, it would be boring if the game didn't have the changes generated to keep a level playing field for those that "market" and those that market.

Are you sure as afaik most of the tasks are automated via HTTP requests and not API.
Besides changes wont affect much as the owner will do the updates accordingly.

Already using it. Not sure why you find an issue with that. Even the bots like jarvee use embedded browser follow/unfollow when api requests have action blocks.

Instagram is so popular because of all the bots. Most social media networks have a decrease in users, Instagram would too if botting was completely eliminated. Which it never will and Instagram knows this. They only make it hard for people who spam. Only time will tell though and as any good marketer, you need to adapt. Jarvee currently doesn't even use API, but does most actions browser based.

Of course, both Jarve and GMT2 uses HTTP requests. The problem is that requests will be encrypted and you will not be able to understand them. That's the main reason why they use version 27.0 and they won't be able to do the same after shutdown.

They'll always be ways around it. You should have seen it just a year ago, was basically the wild wild west.

Api based will be shutdown but browser based bot will not be for the moment

Since Instagram is intended to be used as an app they might limit it in the future as well.
I mean follow/unfollow requests.

I would not be surprised if they didn't.

FB did the same thing where you could not post 50 times a day with your link like I was able to do for some time so I went to 300+ accounts posting a few times a day and get similar results.

If they take away the long pass throw underneath.

Well if you remember it right, Instagram was originally an app only platform that too it was limited to iOS users.

There have been hundreds of biggies in the past who tried to discontinue their browser version and switched to app only but later they found out they were losing big since businesses are the ones who use browsers and not apps and certainly its the businesses again who bring in the revenue for any social media platform.

Even if they do plan to close down the browser platform and make it limited to app only, there's still alot of scope since emulation will still be there which cannot die anytime soon since no matter how good the AI's may work, they're built by humans and humans can break them too.

People just need to relax, changes are supposed to be taking place all the time, it doesn't really means that the new codes cannot or will not be cracked.

its the IMers only which boost a platform's presence and its the platform's new changes to eradicate marketers which actually leads to downtrend of the platform.

This is one of the better threads I have seen in the past week or so... solid discussion despite a fair amount of non-agreement.

I'd say over 1/4 of Instagram's monthly "active users" are bots. Honestly probably more as there's so many like farms. 2/4 are private users who just like friends photos and post occasionally, follow a few meme pages. The other 1/4 make all of the content and are the real active users who post frequently and engage with their community. Maybe even less. Obviously these are just guesses as it's impossible to come up with the true statistics.

I believe Instagram needs botting and without it they'd see a decrease in active users just like the other social media networks all are seeing currently. As Instagram's AI increases, bots will too. A good quote is to "never keep all your eggs in one basket". Take what you can while you can and spread off into multiple ventures.
