I said I'd close it if it devolved. Some of this is pretty poisonous and goes way beyond cynical. In fact I think we've probably gone full circle back to tin foil hat again.
BTB's promotion seemed to be, in my cynical eyes at least, due to the controversy surrounding t0mmy's resignation and not because of the massive benefit and help he has contributed over the years.
See what I mean about conspiracy theories? I like to think I've got a fair sense of how things are likely to come across on the forum. This one.. took me aback, if I'm honest.
So - just to clarify: I
really don't like it when mods get singled out for criticism or attack. We've now had two mods disparaged and used as an argument to further the whole "manipulative management" conspiracy. They volunteer their time to help manage the forum and they do an amazing job, far above and beyond what we have any right to expect. I'm profoundly grateful to all of them for the difficult job they do here -
for free - whilst taking abuse and being argued with. Yet they take it on the chin and it doesn't stop any of them treating members fairly with patience and understanding.
And to get back to this point in particular: there really wasn't that much fuss about t0mmy resigning. Most of us have strong opinions and they won't always be in agreement but this is a normal part of life.
@t0mmy's been an incredibly valuable member of the forum, as a seller, a contributor, a mod and an exec. Not only has he provided great content and advice but, like the other mods, he's also given up a lot of his time for free to support the forum and make it a better place.
Merely an observation. If that’s not the case then, the timing was just very coincidental.
That's a classic post hoc fallacy right there.
@BassTrackerBoats deserved his promotion twice over. Regardless of anything else happening in his personal or professional life, he spends a huge amount dealing with reports, helping members, helping us out with the marketplace and
still engages on the forum. I'm seriously disappointed that you've chosen to diminish this by suggesting it was done for any other reason than to recognise the massive contribution he makes to the forum on a daily basis.
I really don't understand why anyone thinks we'd need to "deflect" any controversy in this manner. BHW is an internet forum. We're not a shadowy secret agency or a government department that needs to spin and manipulate events in this way. It's almost flattering that you'd think we have the resources or time to choreograph events to deceive anyone in this way. Almost.
There's more I could answer in your post but, at this point, I'm done with the argument. I can't help noticing that the discontent and accusations always seem to come mostly from the same small group of people. There's over 800,000 members on here and I'm not going to take away time from supporting them to reassure people who won't ever be satisfied. However, there's been a few constructive suggestions here and there:
We need a dedicated spoonfeeder on this forum that will be given moderator priviledges, his only job would be to spoonfeed members and link to older threads containing the answer.
That will help newer members integrate into this forum, as the first steps are always the hardest and not everyone can use the search function.
He would literally be a newbie guider, the all-knowing one and this one position would help you leverage other mods into different ventures, such as thread approving, bst monitoring and spam deletion.
That's a really good idea. We've been working to make the transition process from newbie to regular member as easy as possible. This is something that could well be integrated into this - thank you for the suggestion.
As always, any suggestions or constructive feedback posted in this section are appreciated but I think this particular thread has run its course now. Closed.
