Hello fellow outliers,

Since we are about to launch the beta version of TradeMySite.com ( Smartest Marketplace to trade Websites and Domains ), we are seeking some robust answers to the following questions?

1. Whether you want to switch to a better platform and why?
2. What should be the ideal fee for listing a website or domain on TradeMySite.com?

We value your response and this will help us ease out the entire process. ;)

Free - then you have nothing to lose and only pay when your listing is successful, plus it makes your site look busier.

Take your lessons from eBay who regularly do free listings.

10% FVF of lots of sales is far better than a small number of listing fees.

1. I think besides Flippa nothing comes close. So yes a refreshing change is needed and this venture could be a success if you play your cards right and focus on the long term.
2. Ideal fee: If it was me, i'd run a promotion for the first 2 - 3 months. Free to list BUT you must like us/share us on social media (free advertising). Charge a commission for the services when a sale is made. So basically you are a marketplace/escrow for the parties involved.

Try to brainstorm different pricing structures. Ex: flat fee for starter sites, %age on the commission for sales between $xxx - $xxx, Tiered %age commission.

Some nice bells and whistles to make the entire process of listing smoother will definitely get more brownie points.

Probably better to start with a quick explanation / 'sales pitch' on what sets you apart from the thousands of other Flippa clones out there, none of which have ever made any money?

To give you a bit of insight, the primary reason why none of those sites have taken off is that it's incredibly difficult to gain the necessary momentum. You need buyers in order to get sellers, and you need sellers in order to get buyers. Regardless of how good your platform is, this isn't an easy task. Many have tried and ALL have failed. This includes some large companies who have thrown significant amount of money at it (Freemarket.com comes to mind ...)

But with all that aside, it actually baffles me why would anybody even want to compete with Flippa? If you eliminated all the scam listings, you'd be left with very little inventory. And that's not Flippa - that's the market. Currently, Flippa is pretty much the only serious player in the market, so visiting Flippa will give you a good idea of what the market size is like. And it's tiny. Even if you took 100% of Flippa's market share (which is highly unlikely), you would still make very little money.

Apologies for sounding overly negative, but I simply want to help you consider whether this is really the business/market that you want to spend a lot of time and money on ..

Hello,
Thanks for the precious reply, We will definitely take into consideration the points you have mentioned. But we are afraid of the spamming that may fill up in our marketplace due to free listing. Need your thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance!

You're quite right about this. Make it free and it'll be overloaded by:

1) Spam

2) The type of sellers who can't afford a $10-$20 listing fee (0.001% of these maybe own actual, decent sites)

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I liked your opinion. First of all While the market is ripe, and there are many people who *hate* Flippa for their own reasons, it's by far the only marketplace where your site and its gonna be seen by potential buyers. For every good listing, you’ll have to wade through hundreds or so junk ones, and this is the problem the earlier Flippa clones we’ve not mentioned here fail to address.
Also we have not tried to build yet another clone of Flippa but a more robust platform filling up the voids that flippa was never able to fill up.
Everything seems tough until you start and move step by step, we have long term plans with Trademysite and will try our best to make the marketplace PMF.
Thanks
