Hi Azguru, sorry if I'm hijacking your thread. But I've already built a website similar to this concept. I realized that I can't do it all alone. So I'm looking for others who wish to do this concept.

It is all about getting some nice theme..
such that people could easily navigate and have easy access to social sharing buttons..
you need to keep it clean and fast..
you can also give it 2x using pinterest... it is great for amazon affiliate stores..

I'm still using this method. It works extremely well around the holidays. How much you make will depend on how well you scale it and how much traffic you send.
Currently, I am using StumbleUpon, Pinterest, and media buying to drive traffic and they all work well.

The concept is the same regardless because this is not an SEO-related method.
I am running my sites on WP, but some of them are setup with "Tumblr-like" themes.
In short, you can do this with any CMS.

How are you using pinterest to drive traffic to the site? I managed to throw one up and make around $3k with it during the holidays but now I'm trying to use pinterest to get more traffic. I have mine on a blogger blog with a custom domain so it's getting a bunch of organic google traffic as well which isn't surprising. I write out each of the descriptions and do a little on page SEO that's about it. No link building or anything. Main money came from 2 of my product pages going viral on stumbleupon.

Very interesting thread. I just started an entertainment site on stumbleupon, the content is all about fun, none of it is trying to sell anything. I just paid someone with a power account (someone with around 2000 followers) to 'discover' one of my pages. So far I have around 17 natural likes in 24 hours. Azguru, would you say this is average or higher than average? I'm wondering whether I really need to pay a power account owner to stumble things for me. I have my own stumble account which I've had for years but has hardly any followers.

Congratulations on your success. This method works especially well around the holidays.
There are a ton of ways to use Pinterest to send traffic, so it will really depend on the resources you have available. If you can get 1000+ accounts and use PinPal bot, that would certainly work. Similarly, you can acquire some higher authority Pinterest accounts and use those. Make sure to get a lot of repins. You may even want to pay authority "pinners" to repin your pins.
That is a good amount of natural likes for the time period. I hope it brought in some decent traffic.
That being said, I never paid authority accounts to like my pages. The StumbleUpon algorithm for going viral is very random sometimes. I'll usually post 100 pages or so, hoping that a few go viral. I don't usually go out of my way to inflate the pages with likes, however, I'm sure that can work well. Just do some testing.

Personally, I barely modify the themes I use. I just pick themes that will work for the kinds of sites I am building.
Grid Theme Responsive looks like it would be good for this kind of site. You made need to tweak it a bit to get your monetization right, but it should work.
I have shopperpress sites but I don't promote them this way. They look way too much like an online store. StumbleUpon users want to look at cool stuff, not go shopping. ShopperPress may work well with Pinterest though...

Like I said before, people don't come to my sites to shop, they come to browse interesting products.
