I was inspired my @vinku to create this post. Let's go!

This year I finished university and I got a developer position in one of the most cutting-edge startups in Barcelona. I asked for the human resources if I could shorten the schedule and enter to work only half a day. So I could spend the rest of my time developing apps.

I programmed some Android in college and got better over time and as I was doing tutorials on the internet.

I started to launch apps at the beginning of September and to date I have 4 developed and 3 published. One of them was banned because of spam and I'm reskinning it so I can upload it again in another developer account.

The thing is that at the moment I am earning about 100-150€ per month but my goal is to have a good source of passive income in a year, ie be earning at the end of next year about 1500-2000€.

I created a new Adsense account for that. I haven't received any payment yet, I have the payment method activated and this 21st day I should get my first 100€ from Admob.

These are my 3 apps. I will show you the downloads of each app and the keywords traking with TheTool tool.

I published the first app on August 24th. It hit very hard at first and then it relaxed. It's a placebo app, it seems to do something but it doesn't really do anything, just Interstitial load. It has very good retention. I think it could be because of the UI, it's quite worked.

The second app is going up little by little. I still have to update it and improve the usability a bit. This is a niche not very competitive. The keywords are ranking me very well. I'm waiting for an A/B test of the logo and screenshots.

The third app is a half-placebo app. It serves to entertain the user basically. This app cost me to publish it because Google detected it as misleading content. To this app I put installations per package and backlinks with variations of the keyword in the anchor texts. It's going up little by little and the keywords are starting to rank. I think I'll have to optimize the descriptions a bit more.

The fourth app Google rejected me once for putting too many ads, I fixed it and the second time I sent the app to review I was suspended for spam. I have to change the app and give it a twist, even change a bit the theme to attack better paid keywords.

SEPTEMBER SUMMARY

Estimated income September: 89,92 €
Downloads in September: 10.812

TOTAL SUMMARY

Downloads total: 15.880
Estimated total income: 95,15 €.

It's October 16th, so in 2 weeks I'll publish the October summary.

I hope it has motivated you and if you have any doubts leave them in the comments.

Thank you all very much and see you next time!

Possible, just becareful of google play mass accounts termination, and don't count on your apps as main source of income, for almost two years i worked a day job and i had like 18 apps on google play and there were making me money which was like half of my total income, then this month google play updated their policy and stuff and my account was terminated just like that ,half of my income was gone,i appealed i thought maybe it was a mistake and they didn't answer me yet.

As @vinku commented, many apps have been deleted, but that means more opportunities for other apps... I have to be aware of what's going on. Google Play is getting exquisite with the apps

Hey, good luck with your project!
Are you doing any gaming based apps ?

They are not gaming apps at all... They are like entertainment apps builded with Android Studio.
Thank you!

You say you created a new Google Play account. Did you use a virtual machine, an AWS...?

I bought an Amazon USB modem for about 40€, I also bought a new SIM card for 15€, (I was not asked for identification or anything), and with that I also created a virtual card in Revolut. I installed everything in a new virtual machine with VirtualBox, and with a brand new Windows 10. I paid with the Revolut virtual card and everything was fine for the moment. Whenever I want to connect to the developer's account I do it from that virtual machine with internet of the SIM card.

Good choice:
https://www.appbrain.com/stats/number-of-android-apps

It's updated September (don't watch October, September was the same one month ago), Android is still loosing apps:
-privacy policy MUST be in app, if you are using any ad network
-minimum API level is 26, some older apps are impossible to change for new API without huge amount of cash or money
-google are cleaning spammers (IDIOT SPAMMERS) thx to new anti spam policy, smart spammer will bypass it without issue

"Living off apps in a year is that possible?"
Dude, I am doing it for December 2011, never worked anywhere else ;)
So yes, this is possible :) I think it will be easier and easier for next few years, when Google made API level limitations, all old trash 2011-2016 will be deleted wave by wave.
I think it's the "new open"... still we have trash in store but come on. Google is deleting 50k-250k apps each month.

that's a good thing for competition

I wish you good luck , i have a similar journey here i'm about to scale it now

Possible !! Definitely, I think accounts terminations and new policies will clean the store and send spammers and low-quality content makers away, This business is getting even better by day, I wish you the best luck @PoisonReverse, I'm about to start a similar journey to yours in the near future.
As said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".

More than possible. And the fact that you're willing to put in a certain amount of effort and create entertainment apps instead of simply reskinning games will bear its fruits.

I dont know much about app development but you can scale it to the sky and after all, you can do 1000 bad apps and 1 great 1, sell to Zuckerberg and be freaking rich in Maldive (even tho Barcelona has great beaches). So yea, you can easily do a living by doing that.

Hello OP, I saw you mention Revolut, how many virtual cards you can creat in total ? Are they disposal, meaning that you can delete them after use ?
Best of luck mate.

This looks amazing. I wish you the best of luck. I think you are well on your way already.

Why are you not porting these over for iOS though? Seems like it would be great idea if the apps are useful enough?

I hope you succeed on this journey. In the future I'll start mine. I will continue your journey ...
