Does high karma still matter on Reddit today ?

I always believed that once a Reddit account builds high karma, it automatically gets better reach and engagement on posts. But recently, I have started noticing something different.

Some newer accounts are getting more comments and upvotes compared to older accounts with much higher karma. This makes me fee like Reddit might now be focusing more on other factors like content quality, activity level and how relevant the post is to the subreddit.

Has anyone else noticed this shift or is it just my experience ?

I still think karma has some value, but nowhere near as much as people make it out to. A post that fits the subreddit well seems to outperform everything else.
 
Yes karma matter a lot on reddit it give you that difference between just being that regular account and being one trusted member with lots of trusted advices
 
I think karma still helps, especially for joining some communities, but it's not the main factor anymore. Good content, being active, and posting in the right subreddit seem to matter much more now.
 
karma helps but reddit will always reward the post and early audience signals. if you don't get initial traction most likely your post will never go viral
 
From what I am seeing right now, your device's background is much more important than your Reddit account's karma or age
