Hi everyone,

I always believed that once a Reddit account builds high karma, it automatically gets better reach and engagement on posts. But recently, I have started noticing something different.

Some newer accounts are getting more comments and upvotes compared to older accounts with much higher karma. This makes me fee like Reddit might now be focusing more on other factors like content quality, activity level and how relevant the post is to the subreddit.

Has anyone else noticed this shift or is it just my experience ?

Hi @Church Priest

One thing I have noticed recently is that karma does not seem to carry as much weight as many people think.

A high karma account still has advantages, especially when it comes to trust and subreddit requirements, but it does not guarantee strong reach or engagement. I have seen newer accounts get excellent results simply because their content matched what the community wanted to see.

According to me, reddit appears to be placing more emphasis on content relevance, user engagement, and overall account activity than on karma alone.

The same goes for me. Karma helps in building trust and setting subreddit limits, but it no longer guarantees reach
Factors like timing, relevancy, engagement speed, and how much the post fits into the subreddit are very important now

Reddit's risk engine got a massive update recently. It cares infinitely more about subreddit-specific authority and your session health. If you take a 5-year-old account with 100k karma that used to post memes, and suddenly try to drop serious marketing content in a niche business sub, the algorithm silently kills your reach.

from whats i have noticed lately, Accounts CQS matters more on reddit, not karma

In my opinion, karma is still very important for a Reddit account. Besides allowing you to participate in more major subreddits, a high karma score also makes your account appear more credible and trustworthy.

Karma still helps, but mostly as a filter now. Reddit cares about whether the account looks normal in that subreddit, has a decent comment history there, and gets some real early interaction. Many big-karma accounts get nowhere just because they looked out of place, while smaller accounts do fine when they feel native.

Yeah, high karma doesn’t guarantee reach anymore, reddit mainly pushes posts based on early engagement, relevance, and subreddit fit.

I have also seen newer, more active accounts outperform old high-karma ones when their content hits better timing and interest signals.

Yes, I’ve noticed it too. Reddit doesn’t rely on karma as much anymore. It now favors post relevance and early engagement. New accounts can outperform old ones if the post performs fast. Timing and subreddit fit matter more than account history.

Yes, I also think Karma does not guarantee strong reach. Now Reddit support the posts in which people quickly react to the content rather than account history.

you only need to have certain level of karma to be able to make a post on different subreddits, but thats pretty much it

Yes.

High Karma does effect algorithim .

It also effects chances of being banned.

It essentially tells reddit search "this account has a track record of being trusted" so you can get a bigger reach more frequently

Anybody thinking Karma has no use doesn't get the tail-end effects of what's going on with reddit when it trickles down into other parts of the web

Not to say new accounts can't get a 'bang' here and there but it's not even close to the same for me.

High karma has more influence on readers.

What you see as new accounts getting more reach, is because it is in the interest of platform. It encourages new members to stick to the platform.

Yeah, High karma is still important for Reddit marketing but it is not alone is mandatory to get strong reach. Content quality and following the different subreddit rules are also important for successfully survival on Reddit for long-term.

No doubt, reddit has become much stricter now and I have seen newer accounts outperform older high karma accounts simply because the content was more relevant to the subreddits. But I think karma still matters, but not as much as few years ago. Today, content quality, community fit and early engagement seem to matter more than reddit karma alone.

I think karma still helps especially for getting past subreddit requirements but it does not guarantee engagement anymore. According to me content quality and how well the post fits the subreddit seems to matter more.

In my opinion, having a high karma score is one of the most important factors for a Reddit account. It helps increase your credibility and makes it easier to participate in larger communities on Reddit.

High karma can help build trust, especially in stricter subreddits people may be more likely to view established accounts as legit.

Karma is still useful for trust, but not for reach. On Reddit, content quality and relevance decide visibility.
