Sudden loss in traffic

Hello everyone, I would greatly appreciate your input on the following situation:

I acquired an expired domain with a good history and decent backlinks. Initially, the site performed well, with approximately 15,000 daily impressions and around 3,000 monthly traffic within the first three months of working on it. However, everything suddenly plateaued, and all traffic and impressions dropped to zero in Search Console.

Despite our efforts, such as updating almost all the old articles and posting new ones, the issue persists. Currently, we are experiencing:

1. Very poor indexing
2. Poor crawl budget
3. De-indexing of previously ranked keywords and previously indexed keywords, according to AHREFS
4. Accumulated data decreasing to zero

My question is: Would moving the site's content to a new domain and implementing a 301 redirect from the old site to the new one potentially solve this problem?

Or do you have any better suggestion for me? Thank you.

From the graph, it seems like it's been hit by dec update.

And you have been hit thrice, so what did you do when you were hit by the October and November update?

After 301 to a new domain rankings will return, but you will get penalty on it too after 3-4 weeks if you do not fix the reason of it.

As evident from the graph, each update, starting from the helpful content update, followed by the spam update, and culminating in the December update, has had a significant impact on the website. Nonetheless, the site has managed to recover after a few days, as the graph shows. In response to the previous updates, I did not take any action, and the site recuperated on its own. However, it appears that the site has finally succumbed to the December update and is still struggling to regain its footing.

After you took over the domain, did you retain the exact URLs with backlinks?
Was your new website relevant for the ranking keywords?

But one more question, do you think if it is wise to inform search console that the site has been moved to new domain? or should i just do the normal 301 redirect?

I've been worried of two things:

1. informing search console of the site move might bring the old penalty or hit or poor performance back to the new domain.
2. Not informing search console might lead to plagiarized website (Though i was planing to do a 1 to 1 move, where every post redirect to the same pages on the website).

Please what do you think?

DM me your URL and a list of 10 keywords that you were ranking on the first page for. I'll review it and let you know if I can see something that's off. It probably has to do with the quality of your content, or it could be that you didn't restore the expired domain properly.

yeah i did, i tried to reproduce similar content on the new website on those links with backlinks. Again, most of its backlinks was pointing to the root domain. And yes, the niche was extremely similar to its previous usag

In my test I confirmed change of address in GSC.

A sudden drop in organic traffic can be caused by many factors, including a drop in rankings, changes made to your website, changing relevance for your content, or Google updates. There are also situations no one can truly influence. If your traffic decreases significantly, don’t panic, and try to figure out what may have been the most likely cause. Did you check your ranking?

It must be the update. You had nothing to do with it, maybe a little. So, i would suggest sit back and keep going on as your site looks good.
