It's been nine days since the last update here, what has changed with your sites?

For me, on 18th of July, my 100% affiliate site tanked, a 95% drop in traffic, majority of my KWs didn't just fall in rank but was completely lost.

Is the any theory behind this? Who has any clue on what I can do?

In the first week post-google update i thought my website mostly recovered and it appears to be so, i start picking old keywords back but the only problem is that despite continously picking new keywords my traffic went ~20% down than before. I guess i will let it like this till the new google update and continue to pump out content.

Since may core update (subject of this thread) another 4/5 unconfirmed updates rolled out.

I got struck by the 18th July and it was disastrous... 95% traffic gone.. Almost all KWs completely LOST.

If the KWs simply got lost, don't worry, they will be back, unless they have been replaced by another website, the matter changes.

What replaced my sites for those keywords are sites that don't do half of what I did in relation to that KW.

Watching my ahref report "lost" kws by the day is pretty disheartening.

Update

+20% traffic increase since June

5% over ATH (which was just before update)

recovery looks good, most keywords pushing higher

Only real changes made were fixing GSC PE issues - hitting site hard with links but that's pretty much every month

What did you do? Is your site an affiliate site? Did you keep writing?

I'm still massively down on all my affiliate sites from the 17th May.

As an experiment I started posting info content on one of the smaller affiliate ones, it had 100k words & I've added roughly 10k words of info content so far.

Of the original 100k content posted, 27k of it was Info content (27%).

There should now roughly be 37k / 110k info (33%). I'm experimenting on this one because it's much smaller than my other site in terms of word count.

No movement yet.

I'm going to keep going until it's 2/3rd info based, so total 219k content, it's going to take a while.

What affiliates do you use? How do you display your affiliate buttons? I mean your "buy buttons"

I'm trying to figure out how Google's not understand that Site A is an affiliate site.. If feel if we can find out how their bots understand this then we can rebrand and avoid that, maybe cloak the links? Remove "Buy on Amazon" etc etc.

Google could theoretically figure out if it's an affiliate website by the "is a participant in the Amazon.com Services LLC Associates Program" that people place in the footer, by the outbound affiliate links, and they also probably pay special attention to sites that target "Best X for Y" keywords.

You can convert the "is a participant in the Amazon.com Services LLC Associates Program" disclaimer into an image to make it more difficult for Google to spot, but I'm pretty sure that Google is capable of detecting text on images. For affiliate links, sure, you can cloak them if the affiliate program allows this, but Amazon does not, and you will get banned eventually.

Also, even pure info sites got tanked in the last update, not to mention sites that had an 8:1 info to affiliate content ratio. It might not be worth the effort if Google is seemingly shooting blind.

I use AAWP plugin for my affiliate links, to Amazon.

The buttons I use "Check Price" on some, "View Description" on some & "Check on Amazon" for some.

If google hates affiliate sites I think everyone will start to have problems... I don't know of any site that doesn't have an affiliate article. Too bad google never had and never will have a powerful competition.

I don’t think Google is targeting Affiliate sites

9 out of 10 of my affiliate sites crashed and burned.

It almost 100% targetted affiliate sites, some just got away with it. It's about trying to find out why they did.

That post as well, doesn't really say anything. 300 to 2,000 visits a month, is it across the whole site? Has one article done that? Has it meant that much of an increase in revenue?
