Why people using URL Shortener?

Why do so many people use URL Shortener as Tier 2 / 3? Sometimes even as Tier 1? That doesn't make sense to me, what is the purpose of URL shorteners?

1. I use it for SMS messages so I can use shorter message and save money.
2. I can control the endpoint so I can control the destination days/weeks after it was published.

Yes, but then I can blow with GSA as Tier2 on Tier 1, instead of putting another URL Shortener in between or?

Specifically, why use URL shorteners as an intermediate layer when building backlinks? It was recommended to me, however, I somehow see no sense in it and would simply leave it out if necessary.
Do they forward the link juice 1:1 or what do people hope to get out of it?

The shortner when between a tool and a link, is another level of protection. You get the juice through the shortner, but the link is protected from penalty

Then the question arises for me why not everyone does so, would be then hardly more effort.

Yes, pretty much But as with any other internet related thing, never overdo it thinking that this layer will protect you. I guest that a few million links would still be bad even for a protected link

Yes, that's probably true.
But that takes a few seconds to create a URL shortener for each tier 1 link. It only sucks when the shortener is deleted, because then the link juice is cut off.
Maybe that's why some don't use shorteners?

There are tools to build shortner links automatically. GSA has this, but most automated tools have it. The deletion of a link is an issue for all of the tier 1,2,3 links. You don't have control over them. An autoapproved comment can be removed at any point or the page itself can get deleted. A forum post can be moderated, and so on. Don't overthink it and if a link is deleted, replace it with another one

They are mostly used for cloaking URLs. If your URL is lengthy, you can use a shortener to reduce it. They are used by some people to index tier-2 and tier-3 URLs. The short URLs don't have much value as backlinks.

Sometimes you can't memorize the lengthy URL. So link shortener will help to get direct to the right lengthy URL page. This will be used for tracking purpose too.

It’s simple,that’s the answer. Because it is simple we can easily place it in any social media.It has a streamlined appearance and is easy to replicate. It also has tracking abilities for business purposes.
