What happened to Google?

Has anyone noticed that google has been mad? Its July 2021 core update hit the genuine websites and a pool of junk websites ranking much better with one or more than one pages on top 10 search results.
Today I searched a query on google and found 2 pages of a websites ranking in top 10 search results. When I checked it, it has very low quality backlinks and poor content. I can't understand what happened to google, how these types of websites are still ranking better than high authority websites.
Is it time to say good bye to SEO?

You say the websites ranking better than yours have trash backlinks - how many of them are there, what DA/PA are the backlinks, etc?
 
Sometimes it's very difficult to explain weird moves by Google algo. You can go two ways here:

1. Try to detect what could be helping these changes and in case you find something, use it for your favour, which is very unlikely and random, and could potentially make you lose a huge amount of time
2. Just go wide and forget about minor disadjustments in certain keywords.

Personally, for my sanity, I chose option 2 years ago.

Junk backlinks. Almost blog comments on the pages having tons of external links.
The DA of that website is 13.

My website was ranking for more than 30K keywords, it is still ranking but not in top 3. My traffic dropped to from 25K to 4K per day.

Each update, it's always ends up asking "Is SEO die".
No, Google's SEO is evolving.
Some legit sites gets hit, some blackhat sites get hit. Their algo isn't perfect and that's why we are all still here, to find ways to manipulate it to our benefits.

How far did you dig? perhaps the serps are dancing around, are you sure they are the stabilized results? Are you sure they don't have hidden PBNs?

DR/DA/sS/TF/ whatever else are not google's official metrics
They are guesstimates of what people have came up with throughout the years.
Indicators but doesn't mean they high = good
they can be easily manipulated

I have a 1.8 DR site that is getting 20k+ organic visitors monthly :anyway:

I'm not talking about just 1 site, but many. I've had sites dropping while others growing. This is the big issue of this in general.

I always have in mind that SEO algo is purely broken, so diversification is the only way to go. I understand that many times one specializes a lot, because it's easier but if you cannot see ups and downs in your porfolio, maybe something bigger is happening that you are not taking into account, and a whole audit may make sense (which cost money and is not a single question and answer in a forum).

After many years in BHW, I've found out that 0 updates have been solved in a time gap of less than 6 months. Issues are found over time and generally long time. Even those specialized sites with tons of data and metrics, only barely see some gaps that 99% of the times are useless.

Even the medical update that was pretty obvious took like 3 or 4 months to be solved.

Many people suggest that the June update was big enough to be considered a major update (not core) in certain aspect.

The only relevant aspect that Google announced like 6 or 8 months, that would be happening after May, was Core Vitals update. So I may assume you are also testing in this regard.
 
I will keep saying it all the time, all what happens in/on Google is random!
 
This is due to the spam algo update. Now only spam sites rank in Google. It's time for all of us to start churn & burn projects.

How can I know that they have PBN links? I check websites on ahrefs and ubersuggest.
 
Google always being like that for example since the update my rankings keep going up for all my sites without me really doing any work since Google knows people who have ferrets deserve the rankings more than non ferret people.

Sure I can find German food or Indian more easy than in the past in some areas it better but in other places I would agree with you it's kind of getting more backwards such as in the past I found kind of funny when I looking into Italian Google had a site claiming Super Mario is the Prime Minister of Italy and Browser is his rivalry in politics.
 
This happens everytime there is update. This is Google dance for few days and then rankings will stablize.

Update has been rolled out and SERP dancing is done. Very low metrices websites are sticked on top position.
