great guide. personally I would say, go slow and steady. diversify your links. same site referring multiple link to money site would create a flag.

in scenario 4: this is similar to you having a sidebar link, meaning it is on homepage and also on all inner pages. Since this is diminishing return, would you go back and fix the PBN so that you eliminate sidebar links and have it like scenario 1? or leave it alone

Google have one dedicated algorithm to detect all kind of link wheels.
I wrote same algorithm based on documentation from Google patent where this algorithm was explained.

It allow to find just 5 interconnected domains between even 1 million linking domains under 1 second.
But some people still thinking that is impossible.

Subdomains can inherit authority from the root site, otherwise there wouldnt exist so many coupons' sites as subdomains of other authority (although unrelated) sites.

Other approach would be create the sites as subfolders of the pbn, for example:

pbn.com/site1 -> moneysite.com/post-1
pbn.com/site2 -> moneysite.com/post-2

That way I think the site as as subfolder would inherit more authority from the root site. Whats your opinion on this?

I checked the sub-domain discountcode.dailymail.co.uk mentioned in one medium article. It has quite a few direct links itself.

Also, root actually links to it (from the whole site) so juice is passed that way:

Yes, you can. Sub-domain (web 2.0 root) becomes the homepage in this case.

I've been also suprised how much it's simple.
Even with my very very simple reconstruction of this algorithm - it was able to detect 5 interconnected domains under 1 second in base of 1B links.
I 've tested it on single server with 2x16 core procesors + NVME disks + 192GB RAM.

I don't know how many servers Google use currently for search engine purpose, but in 2010 it was ~100K in total.
So, let's think how many time they need in reality to detect such kind of links with such resources, even when their BL database is hundreds times bigger.

Programming skills together with the SEO skills are incredible valuable together, because you can create near everything what you need.
I've been first the programmer and 10 years later in 2004 I've discovered the SEO.

It was changed my life forever.

For "interconnected" do you mean ***SITEA links to SITEB*** and ***SITEB links to SITEA***?
If yes, it's not a problem since usually the best PBNs have only one way link to money sites, just like in the "real" interconnected websites

If you have a blog style PBN, it can be beneficial to continually post on the same PBN. Links on homepage are the best. Linking to the same site multiple times on the same PBN can provide some "extra" value.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking. It's a LINK WHEEL, just another strategy well different of PBNs. The PBN explained on the OP are not link wheels.
I think nowadays nobody still use link wheels, it's clear that they leave an huge footprint for google.

Yes, it's true - however still many people "doing" the SEO in this way.
The second worse strategy is build the "silo" with much more worse sites as each higher level.
Also often the tier 3 is the last - what not exists in real interlinked database.

And here expiring domains doing great job - because we have all tiers done and it's done very well.
The only bad thing, for expired domains (or deleted) is imposible to hide the footprint - domain registration date.
With many links from such domains - Google also know that somebody trying play the algo.

The nice thing about Google catching that is I made unreasonable money after it was caught by providing a service that was automated and undid all that damage from the link wheel days.

For sure you remember that all changes with new links was visible very quick.
That was great time to many tests - for which today months are needed.

When any page was penalized in that time - PageRank was reseted.
Today the only signal we have - it's search engine visibility, however I was learned how to use it in proper way.

In that time I was created many PBN sites for one of largest link exchange network.
Pretty easy and great money, where on each subpage with PR4 you can place 10 links x $2 each.

For this reason I've created the system, which was able to crawl and detect PR for all subpages.
So, simple site with 10-30 pages generated $100 - $500 monthly without any hassle where I was paid on auction $100-$400 per domain.



It was pretty nice time
Also on above image is visible how Moz MR was pretty close to OLD PageRank.
