How many times should I link from a PBN?

People ask me this question all the time. Or similar variants. Among many others.

I feel like PBN Cortana or Siri sometimes.

Let me answer it in public.

So... "How many times should I link from a PBN?"

Depends on what you want to achieve. Let's take a closer look.

Generally, people use PBN links in 5 different ways.

One PBN unit homepage linking to one money site page.

This is the ideal way to do it.

It is also the most expensive one.

Gives the best results and is my recommended way of PBN linking.

PROS:
- great power & link juice
- anchor text diversity
- only need few of these puppies usually for major rank increase

CONS:
- expensive when scaling is required

VERDICT: Recommended!

PBN unit homepage linking to multiple different money site pages.

This is probably the most common scenario.

Linking to multiple money sites from the same PBN unit.

PROS:
- decent power / juice if you keep OBL (outbound link count) below 20 (ideally below 10)
- anchor text diversity

CONS:
- lowering power / link juice because of increasing OBL with each link

VERDICT: Recommended!

The same PBN unit homepage linking to multiple pages of the same money site.

Here is where people usually mess up and don't get results they want.

Linking to multiple pages on the same money site gives so called diminish returns.

Diminishing returns is like running against the wind. You keep pushing forward harder and harder but wind is getting stronger and stronger so the end result is that you end up going backwards.

PROS:
- power / juice to the first linking page
- anchor text diversity of individual pages

CONS:
- diminishing returns
- waste of time waiting for results
- potential flag because of oblivious sign of "connection" between websites

VERDICT: Not recommended!

PBN unit homepage and multiple inner pages linking to one and the same money site page.

This is what is happening by default if you build PBN links by publishing homepage posts.

Your post sits on the homepage but the post page itself also gets indexed so link comes from inner page as well.

This is OK as homepage will get priority.

However... if you push this further and keep building links from inner pages you will once again encounter diminishing returns.

Homepage (or the page engines discovered first) link will count fully and only thing that will count from inner pages is anchor text. So you can use it for diversity.

PROS:
- power / juice to the first linking page
- anchor text diversity

CONS:
- diminishing returns
- potential flag because of oblivious sign of "connection" between websites

VERDICT: Not recommended!

Multiple inner pages of the same PBN unit linking to multiple page of the same money site.

This can be quite effective if you do it in moderation, actually. Especially if the PBN pages are powered by direct backlinks.

I wouldn't do more than 5 pages personally.

PROS:
- power / juice if individual pages are backed by links
- anchor text diversity of individual pages

CONS:
- potential flag because of oblivious sign of "connection" between websites
- potential diminishing returns but I haven't encounters them with all cases, it's tricky

VERDICT: OK with moderation

There are other linking scenarios but they are not as common.

Example:

sub1.pbn.com --> moneysite.com/post-1
sub2.pbn.com --> moneysite.com/post-2

sub3.pbn.com --> other-moneysite.com/some-post

great guide. personally I would say, go slow and steady. diversify your links. same site referring multiple link to money site would create a flag.

in scenario 4: this is similar to you having a sidebar link, meaning it is on homepage and also on all inner pages. Since this is diminishing return, would you go back and fix the PBN so that you eliminate sidebar links and have it like scenario 1? or leave it alone

I have only one site and I'm focusing on as much content as possible. I don't like the income school method of publishing content like crazy, but hoping to start with guest posts once approx 150,000 words have been published. I've seen this before too, people basically end up creating a link wheel almost, leaving a huge footprint.

I do think it makes sense.However, with unnatural link building getting punished across the board, I don't think it's a sound SEO strategy.
