Hi guys, have read many reviews and don't know who to believe so figured I post here to get your thoughts.

What is the best tool to analyze a competitor's website?

In terms of general setup, backlinks, generating keyword ideas etc..

Each tool comes with area of specialty.
Ahrefs - Backlinks
SEMrush - Detailed LTkeywords.

I will suggest Ahrefs and Semrush , You can find your competitor Backlinks by using Ahrefs tool it is the best competitor analysis tool and semrush also a best tool to Audit the site.

lately, I am playing a lot with https://keywordsheaven.com/on-page-tool/ to assess on-page optimization of my competitors. give it a try. do note that "GOOGLE'S FIRST PAGE AVERAGE RESULTS" column data is all zero. so you can make your own spreadsheet and see the avg for the first page.

I would say
Ahrefs : backlink checker
Semrush : for keyword research

Take a look at Morningscore.io - your own keywords, tracked keywords, competitor keywords, keyword ideas, direct competitor comparison, onpage health check, your own backlinks, competitors backlinks, related keywords - and more.

Out of that list I would say Ahrefs and SEMrush. But if I had to pick one, I'd go with Ahrefs. I also like using similarweb to get a holistic overview of a competitor site :)

It depends on what exactly you want to analyze. Most often I use Ahrefs

you can not just use one, must judge your own scoring over known good application..

ahref
semrush

google it self, everything is based of AdWords stats.

semrush give better feedback on your site.

Semrush for analyzing my own site - the site audit and keyword rankings are superb. The content suggest tool is nifty too. For analyzing backlinks (mine or competitors, or potential expired domains) Ahrefs.

As per my work experience, SemRush is the most effective SEO tool to analyze a website. This tool can easily do keyword research, track keyword strategy runs SEO Audit and looks for the backlinks possibilities. Also, this is easy to use, understand and are fairly reliable.

Many of the tools you can find for free. But if you want to buy something Ahrefs is the best for backlinks and competitor research. For the keyword and traffic search Semrush will be perfect. If you want something else and cheaper I suggest RankRanger.

Every tool has a specific niche it is more suited in. The key to success in this case, is to use them wisely.

My vote goes to ahrefs for their comprehensiveness in their link reporting module - it's really detailed and accurate, and it's updated very frequently as well. Semrush is good in terms of keywords and the amount of traffic estimated for the site or keyword, as those are accurate on semrush.
