What book would you guys recommend for learning SEO

@splishsplash

I had on mind all kind of fake gurus and their correlations, NOT YOU.
Just I hate this word, because it's completely useless in SEO.

I saw many times, for an example: "We analyzed xxxxxx number of sites and here is what we learned"
In this case if 50% of sites was hosted on black servers and 50% on silver, those fake gurus find the "correlation"

But, when you will do the real test on hundred OWN sites - you not will find any correlation
You will find the true about SEO, instead of millions possible stupid correlations.

Especially that Google using a lot of algorithms for ranking sites,
and about each you can learn from Google patents.

The only problem is, that very low number of people is able to understand heavy technical language and what is
really contained there. Where in many of those patents, is repeated that claimed solution is used to prevent "spamming" the search engines.

By knowing it, you can understand for an example how Google detecting paid links, PBNs and many many other things,
which you have no chance to discover by any kind of correlations of sites which failed (or not) - because of complex of those algorithms.

So, even your way of learning SEO is much better than many people around ( what I am appreciating )
but as I said - you have no chance to find the true reason if you don't know algorithms which are explained in mentioned patents.

Also, I have used "color of server" to underline, how stupid correlations can be.
And usually they are.

Only who getting profits from mentioned "correlations" - it's Google,
because year after year real SEO knowledge is destroyed with absolute amazing speed.

For this reason they never will tell that SEO is at least 10 times cheaper than PPC,
because it's their main source of income.

I hope, that I have explained everything enough clear this time.

Best regards,
Greg.

No worries, I understand.

Those kind of analysis aren't so good anyway. The way I do it is more just looking deeply at a site.

If you look deeply into enough sites that work, and enough that fail, you will almost certainly see a LOT of things they have in common.

For example..

I almost never see sites doing well that are heavy on exact/partial anchors anymore.

I particularly like to look at sites that have dropped recently to see if I can spot why. Usually you'll see aggressive anchors, high link velocity, site-wide links, site wide links with exact anchors(the worst) or on-page wise if you read over their content it's "thin" and doesn't go topically in-depth. I've noticed this a lot with the june core update. Ie, you might see this kind of review content "this is a great product for many reasons. people using this product will have a great experience because its been so well designed". Ie, just generic fluff.

That's one of the best ways to learn SEO. Real, live data. Not general correlations, but deep analysis on a single site. The human brain is the best tool we have and subconsciously it's doing a ton of processing, building patterns to recognise success and failure, spot anomalies etc

... I almost never see sites doing well that are heavy on exact/partial anchors anymore...

Because the true is, that today very limited number of SEO "professionals" known real SEO,
for this reason it's pretty simple to outrank them like a children.

Also their "SEO job" is not so effective and pretty visible as in your mentioned anchor text ratio example,
and usually they fail at very very simple things.

For example:
855gclub.com:
- pretty visible in Majestic links from same category
- unnatural anchor text ratio
- unnatural follow / nofollow ratio
- unnatural http / https ratio
- unnatural home page links / deep links ( at least 10x over avg. )

Verdict:
Cheap link building without even a minimal SEO knowledge.
Spectacular shot in the foot.

Best regards,
Greg.

By those fatal mistakes is very simple to find all PBNs between even thousands of linking domains.
And only what was needed in this example is knowledge about average stats for sites which have natural links in given industry.

I am glad to see that you have chance to become real SEO expert, what I really wish you :)
And I am recommending you to start learning from Google patents, it will increase your SEO effectivity at least ten times.

Because it's priceless knowledge straight from the source.

Good luck!
Greg.

I’m relieved how kind all these responses are. You guys and gals are good people

Ahrefs.com
Moz.com
Backlinko.com

All three above are for the basics/medium and learning what is all seo about and how you implement

Blackhatworld.com you know the drill

That's all you need really

Ahrefs.com
Moz.com
Backlinko.com
That's all you need really

For receive first 1 of 10 points in SEO knowledge - yes, you're correct.
You even will learn what is sitemap and how much is important :D

And also, without any problems, you'll find there all kinds of useless correlations and nice charts.

Even if you will read all posts from last 10 years,
The only one thing which you not will find there, is the REAL tests.

So, with that low knowledge you need to deal with millions, let we say "SEO professionals"

Ah, you forgot also about the absolute SEO guru, about Neil - Neil Patel
Neil is the best when it coming about increasing Moz DA by disavowing bad links in Google.

Cheers,
Greg.

In this case you didn't read a thing on Ahrefs and Moz! go back and search again

Please show me an example, I don't like wasting time if you said that it exists and you know the exact url.
Also you can give to Rand from Moz a tip, how to index his new blog, because he wasn't able do it myself.

Pretty nice example of real SEO knowledge popular SEO guru.
Maybe Rand need to get an advice from Neil ?

Or maybe Google not indexing domains with low DA ?
Anyway, I am pretty sure, that Neil know the answer :D

Cheers,
Greg.

I will not put an easy answer for you, Ahrefs and Moz CEO both did REAL tests
And those three sites are not your type as those are informative and not for spoonfeeding type of sites;)

I am pretty sure that mentioned tests not exists, because I am not the person who discovered SEO yesterday ;)
Maybe it was just your illusion or mistake, until we don't know the exact url - real tests not exists on mentioned sites, as I said.

Cheers,
Greg.

https://ahrefs.com/blog/search-intent/ search intent real tests
https://moz.com/blog/experiment-google-rankings-w-search-volume ranking on search term real tests

Now, the real question is: i helped OP with 4 sources to look for, what did you do? nothing, just bitching about it! sources i mentioned are really good, deal with it
I dont see like you as more than just eating bandwidth from this forum, nothing else, i'm waiting your SUPER SEO TESTS till then

I'm out

@the gent

Are you joking or are you sick ?

*** Rand Fishkin / MOZ SEO TEST ****

"Test" on SINGLE site which:

- on daily basis have a lot of new/deleted backlinks
- without control number of clicks
- without control number of testers
- without control number of backlinks
- etc

In summary, they not control nothing except Google results
as team of amateurs from top notch.

Is in your opinion such "TEST" very reliable and made by "SEO expert" ?
The beginner's are able to do much more reliable tests, than this amateur.
So, I am not surprised that he even wasn't able to index his new blog in Google.

I saw on Moz "ranking factors", there are exact numbers,
from where they are come ?

Just from stupid correlations, such color of server in rack.
Because Moz together with mentioned amateur, never did any reliable test.

What I said in previously post and what you just exactly confirming.
Later I'll analyze second "reliable" test made by Ahrefs.

Cheers, Greg.

Seo is Dynamic and Information on books can be outdated. It's better if you take latest online courses from the platforms like udemy, lynda , wordstream, or any other platforms you like.
Also Stay updated on the Latest blogs on Seo. Hubspot, Moz Neil patel's blogs can be a good place. Even reading post on BHW can be useful for you
