I started a wordpress fitness blog around 6 month ago. I have 10 articles posted, written by myself. Is in spanish language. I have a lot of experience on fitness field so I think the content it's ok, easy to read, long enough and bringing valuable knowledge. The SEO plugin YOAST is giving me green light in all of them, so the keyword and titles are well used. I didn't need to grow it fast. I wanted to grow slowly and solid, but the patience have a limit. The problem is that I didn't grow a shit. I mean after 6 month with apparently 10 quality articles with good SEO and everything indexed I'm not getting visits at all. Well some days I can see 1, 2 or 3 visits in the internal analytics but other days just 0. And even maybe those visits are just bots. I don't have good knowledge about SEO and ranking, I just know the basic of basic. The only SEO work I did on that blog is be sure that all the articles have a good score about readability and SEO from YOAST SEO plugin, and upload the sitemap to google console. I know that this is the minimum and there is a lot of more things to do to improve the visivility and ranking, but I'm not an expert and I don't have that knowledge, and there is a lots of people like me even with less knowledge that have blogs and are getting visits. I was thinking that google is ready to push people that don't have knowledge in SEO but are contributing with quality content. Obviously I wasn't expecting tons of visits, but at least some of them daily and slow growing as long as I post quality original articles. Once realized that this is not working, can someone here advise me on what I should do to start getting traffic to my blog? Thank you.

Have you looked at where your KW's for each article rank in Google? If the KW is not extremely easy, you will not rank any KW and get zero visits to your site without reasonable backlinks.

Is the 10 quality articles are the only articles you have on the site within 6 months or there's more?

multi phrase easy competition kW with high search volume bring traffic soon with little blacklink effort,learn your competitors and remove flaws from yours which they have

I think 10 articles isn't enough. How many words on average?

You need to post 10-20 articles or even more every month to get significant traffic. Considering that it's a fitness blog, it should be regularly updated with fresh content.

You also need some backlinks. I suggest commenting on other blogs and putting up some Web 2.0 sites (Tumblr, Medium, Blogger, etc.). They don't cost money.

10 articles a day - you should be worried, 10 articles in 6 month - not sure what you expect, you get a great result already

Yoast's "green light" does not mean sh!t. Do better keyword research and find longtail kws you can actually rank top 3 for.

In the meantime, test out your existing content by spending a few euro on Facebook ads. Post something engaging on social (reddit, instagram, youtube) to drive some traffic, and consider guest blogging on related sites to get links and visits.

You have to do a LOT more work to get website views in the fitness niche.

If you are intent on the 10 or so articles on your site being the main or 'anchor' content for your main keywords, you are basically running a mini or micro site, so at least mix it up with micro content. Go do some more keyword searching to select all those terms with very low searches per month (20-200) that everybody else doesn't bother with. Write 100-150 useful little posts of about 100 words each (in the form of quick tips or quotes from related niche content) that are not time sensitive.

Put the keyword in the title, url and paragraph, and include an internal link to one of the 10 main articles. Since almost nobody is optimizing for these low search keywords, by assembly, you should pick up lots of miscelleneous but relevant traffic for your anchor posts. If the micro posts are set up to be scheduled at a rate of 1-2 posts a week, with 100+ posts in queue you will have 'new content' continually appearing in your blog for a year or two without further effort on your part, which will really please Google.

I think you fail from the start on fitness niche are big sharks, maybe with plenty of articles you are lucky to eat some visitors, but without some backlinks, I don`t think so.

Just curious. Newbie here. I thought post length shouldn't be around 100-150? They are too short for SEO?

Ok, thank you all guys for your replies.

So I think I need to focus on post more often and get some backlinks.

Would be good idea get the backlinks from a payed service, or google could penalize me for black hat practices?

Over 1K words. The biggest ones around 2,5K.

Maybe could be good idea try to attack on lower searched keywords, but what I don´t want to change is the lenght of the articles, because 200 words is not enough for me. I want to give genuine information, give value, quality content, and is impossible for me to get it whit only 200 words per post. I´m not posting about news or temporary trendings. What I tell can be readed today, tomorrow and from here 10 years.

Go for long decent quality articles, not short, crappy stuff. Focus on a few GOOD links, not lots of crappy links. Guest posts on real sites will help, otherwise, look at what the top 10 in your niche are doing and replicate some of it.

Your main articles should be at least 400-500 words or preferably 1000-2000 (with many quality backlinks) to rank for moderate comp keywords. But a dinky 50 searches a month keyword can be ranked to page 1 based on a paragraph, or "blog comment" length content. Basically, nobody else is creating content for that keyword, with the keyword in the text/title/url, so you will have no competition. Their main value is for delivering miscellaneous traffic that is then directed to the main pages of your site, that have full length content.

Throw in a related embedded video if you want the mini posts to look fuller. The idea is to go through posting 100 or more bits of content using such dinky volume keywords as efficiently as possible, so keep it brief but properly SEOed.

1. Make content for your target audience.
  • What do your readers do?
  • What problems do your readers have and how can you help them?
  • What articles do they like to read most (this is suitable for those who already have a blog and an audience)?
  • What attracts them the most?
If your content meets all these requirements, you have every chance to get more traffic.

2. Use bright headlines to get more clicks.

The title of your article should cling to the reader. Users will see it in the news feed or in the search results. Make sure to use the keyword in the title so that users can see it.

It is also important that the title be useful and answer the user's question, and be emotionally attractive.

3. Make a schedule for the release of your posts

Absolutely all site optimizers know that if your website or blog is systematically updated, then the search engines believe that your blog or website is alive. It means there is constantly up-to-date content and can be recommended to users.

To do this, there is a special plug-in, which will automatically publish your posts. WordPress already has this built-in feature. You can use it. You can also plan content in your notebook, Excel or Google Calendar.

4. Optimize content
What you need to optimize:

  • use keywords (key) in the title, description, and in one of the subtitles;
  • use the key request in the link (url) - it doesn't matter if it is Cyrillic or Latin, because search robots have already learned to understand both options;
  • make lists, headings, and subheadings in the text, leave pictures;
  • use the key in the first paragraph of the text and in the last;
  • always do only unique content. You can check the uniqueness using text.ru or advego.ru;
  • Always leave a keyword in the alt tag for images.

5. Leave links to your other articles.

Be sure to leave links to other articles on your blog. This is called internal optimization. If you leave links to an article on a similar article in your own blog, users will be happy to click on it. For a search robot, this will mean that your blog is interesting and should be shown to more.
6. Be active on the forums
Think about who your readers are. Next, select several forums based on your topic and start chatting with users.

I think these short tips will help you
