I just got paid 11$ today. But the hard thing is that i don't get upvotes even though i promote my links on facebook and steemit.chat. Any tips how to get more upvotes?

This is how to get upvote: check on my profile at steemit, vote me and i vote back...goto steemit chat do thesame....

I did that. Upvote for Upvote but then my Steemit power went below 20% and i couldn't upvote anymore.

Then other members of the community can upvote you - and depending on their voting power (their holding of the STEEM cryptocurrency) their vote will give you any amount of money between a few cents and hundreds of dollars.

I'm active on steemit myself (my account is "sirwinchester" as well) and when I discovered the site in july 2016 people used to make thousands of dollars per day.
Now the price of the STEEM cryptocurrency has dropped a little, but you can still easily get a few bucks per post.

One tip I can give you is to promote your post in the steemit.chat forums and also facebook groups, and definitely use some popular tags as well (but don't overdo it, you can get downvoted for tag abuse.)

Other than that, just try it out and have some fun - post some nice pictures you shot or write about something you're passionate about.
The community is very open and welcoming, and as long as you don't post plagiarised content and connect with some people you can make some easy money with blogging!

When cashing out the money, you'll have to convert the STEEM cryptocurrency to bitcoin first (for example on an exchange site like poloniex) and then exchange the bitcoin for your desired currency like $ or € .

Yes, the voting power can get exhausted. it refills over time.
If I would explain every little detail about how Steemit works, the post would have been 1000 words long.

mate just go on steemit site and use 5 mins to sign up. then once you get approved just post good articles twice a day and then you will see. No need for any resources mate. its up to u if u wanna make money or not and with no fu... investments. worth trying as i got my first rewards yesterday night.

First create a "introduceyourself" post so you gain some followers, after start following people and eventually they follow you back.
After this just create your posts.
