as said if you sort new go with woo and wp.
shoppyfy is costy and you don't know how much you really sell.

My 2c worth.

Shopify is simple to set up but with simplicity comes a cost. If you don't mind the monthly fees in exchange for that simplicity then go for it.

Woocommerce is free to install and you can obtain various themes and plugins to make it unique. You may have to do some minor adjustments yourself but it's not really that difficult. Once set up you have no ongoing monthly cost.

So it's really down to how much work you're prepared to put into building your store. There are plugins available to link ali to woo.

Personally, I prefer woocommerce as I like the control I have over the site.

Can I set up multiple shops with one Shopify account? Or do I have to pay 3x monthly fee if I want 3 shops on Shopify?

I have no idea. I have looked at shopify but never used it. Someone else my be better suited to answer this question.

I'm too thinking of giving dropshipping a try.
I'd like to learn more about how do they compare in terms of handling legal issues.
I'm not a US resident but want to sell to the US customers. When running things via Shopify, who is the legal entity that pays taxes, Shopify itself?

On the other hand, if I'm running my own store, do I need to setup an offshore company or 2checkout can take care of that too?

Well woocommerce gives you flexibility and more user preference than shopify... i dunno why people keep using shopify
