It's a pity it lost popularity too, I liked asking Jeeves stuff. Yahoo's mistake was thinking the whole world had ultra fast internet. So the majority of users who had to set aside a week to download 3mb Oasis song moved to Google, so at least they could browse the internet without all the NASDAQ statistics from the last 100 years appearing on their homepage, every time they wanted to look at porn.

Back in 1999/2000 I was at a computer class during summer camp at my school. And I entered some random letters into the search and I ended up on a porn site. And they freaked out and I got in trouble. IDK why they didn't get mad at their tech support for not putting a filter on lol.

But seriously, relaxation and learning are two of my favorite hobbies. I would much rather spend a chunk of my free time reading online than watching TV, and I wouldn't really consider that a "waste" at all. It's like saying that going fishing (for the casual recreational fisherman) is a waste of time. That seems silly to me.
Knowledge is a waste of time if you don't put it into action. What is the point of having all the knowledge in the world if you don't do anything with it? At the very least you could improve your own life with it, if not someone else's, or better yet make a difference that will matter not only to you but the whole world.
Just a somewhat related thought.

I really liked asking Jeeves questions too. I even liked the commercials. Poor Jeeves...
It's funny that you all mentioned G's minimum approach. I was actually staring at the G home page today and realized just how lite and fast it is. I've always liked bright, super simple designs, but that's definitely not the trend these days. Go look at a major gossip site and see how much shit is everywhere.

I was 11 years old and I was searching for "StarCraft Cheat Codes" on Google at home (my parents had a filter on the Internet and the computer was in the living room).
I was hoping to find some real esoteric cheat codes for StarCraft, so I went to page 11 on Google. I thought the further down you went, the more esoteric the cheat codes (this was mostly true when I searched at the time).
Little did I know, anything past page 10 is irrelevant to your search, so I clicked on a link that said "StarCraft Cheat Codes StarCraft Cheats StaCraft Unlimited Time Cheats", but when I clicked the link, I saw what could not be unseen.
Pop-ups of breasts everywhere! They filled the screen, slowed the computer, and hijacked my field of vision! The worst part was that my parents nearby in the kitchen, so I had to 'x' out of 30+ pop-ups before they saw. I had never clicked so fast in my life.
After it was all done, I sat in a corner in foetal position banging my head against the wall.

I had a similar thing happen to me but instead of star craft cheat codes I was searching for anime fanpages and when I went to a page that had porn after repeating the name so much in the link.

You sound like my family (and probably the majority of "normal" people).
i spent 8 years in college, 3 of that post graduate. What did I want to do with my $200k education? Absolutely nothing! I just thought it was fun to learn. Other people thought I was supposed to use it to actually do things.
If I could figure out a way around the whole need for money thing, I would spend the rest of my life in classes.
