1994 - America Online - first time I signed in, I found a chat room and one of my favorite bands Widespread Panic's bass player was hosting a chat. I was blown away...
April 2nd, 2002 at 5:14 p.m. I was shown "The Smurfs (The Lost Episode)" on eBaum's World by my (at the time) step-mother. That was also the first time I had used a desktop computer.
The story and time are correct since I remember glancing over at the time, although the exact date (it was in April, although now that I think about it, this may have happened in 2003 since that was the year my step-mother bought that house near McDonald's) might be wrong. Regardless, I only remember it because it changed the way I look at the Smurfs, the Internet, and computers,I would trade at least 1 testicle for your memory.
I remember playing that NeoPets game when I was 9! I tried logging on right now to see if my old account that my step-sister created for me still existed, and it's apparently still there since I was able to get to the screen below. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact fake birth date I used to make myself appear 18 at the time and I'm not going to waste my time brute forcing my way in.I first went on the line back in 2001 when I started playing Neopets. Seriously.
The real question should have been, what have you done since you've entered the Internet? Have you spent the majority of your time wasting time? Or did you build or learn something over the years? I know I've wasted a lot of time.

I've probably wasted about 4 years of my life online to f*cking bs stuff.
Just goofing off online, within moderation, doesn't seem like a waste at all to me.
If you are counting on IM to support yourself, and you spend most of the day reading O or something, then yeah, I guess that is a waste.
Not that long ago actually. Dialup in South Africa probably only faded out around 2004 - 2006.
I was around 10 I think, when I first experienced the internet. I remember using a search engine called Ask Jeeves, which has since changed to ask.com
So, my first internet experience would have been around the year 2002.
