Using Wordpress Instead of HTML5 site effecting SEO wize?

Hey guys,

I keep seeing people using wordpress and I keep wonder why, after all wordpress is a blog managment system
and I see business big ones spending thausneds of dollars for new web developers companies that build it all around wordpress.
even worst I see many of them using this for ecommerce with the woocommerce and some other wordpress ecommerce solutions.

Thing is that those firms probably find it easy to build website to clients using wordpress + cheap template that they tweaking
but all times this argumnet is raising up I can't find the strong points that why HTML5 is better to use than wordpress.

Usually their strongest point is that wordpress has content managment so its very comfortable for clients but there is many CMS systmes
you can attache to HTML5 sites and give them better solutions.

In SEO aspect what are the goods and worst to use HTML5 or Wordpress, in other question what would you give to your client?

I get the impression you still think Wordpress should be a blogging platform and nothing else. I use Wordpress for just about all my clients and I tell them about it beforehand. Here's why:

They often want to be able to manage their own content.
Developing from scratch is often unnecessary, when there's probably already a WP plugin to handle such functionality.

SEO wise, I see no huge difference between WP and static HTML, other than possible speed decreases in WP, which may affect SEO.

Bottom line, in my mind is: Why fix what ain't broke? Wordpress can do the job, and it does it well. Why mess with that?

Well you do have some stong points but is it stable enough for big ecommerce site?

Ecommerce, it depends. I WOULD use Wordpress for some ecommerce sites, but for a big one I may go with OpenCart, simply for the sake of payment gateway support and possibly security. It was made for ecommerce, so it has to be safe, right?
 
You can still have a html5 theme in wordpress without spending a fortune. When you have 1000+ products, wordpress is rather sluggish and not good. Why? Let me explain:

Wordpress stores post related data in it's vertical meta table. When you are searching for, let's say, the product SKU, wordpress has to first JOIN the meta table with the posts table, and then query for the meta. It is pretty slow and much more slower than the usual ecommerce architecture. It doesn't also have proper indexing methods which is needed for a big product database. In my opinion, if you are serious about ecommerce, better use Magento, or Opencart as Treeofl1 mentioned. Wordpress rocks as a content management system, and also as a blogging platform.

Why would anyone make a pure HTML5 website in 2014 without utilising other powerful technologies? Wordpress outputs HTML to the browser, google doesn't give a shit what your website is made with an anything you can do with a HTML site you can do with wordpress. We use it for small ecommerce websites but for larger ones we use drupal.
 
It's not "either WP, or html5". WP is really much more than just a blogging platform. It's easy and flexible enough for most standard and lots of non-standard decisions. And you can give out html5 in WP if you want (the core is PHP, anyway:)
As for SEO, there's lots of WP SEO plugins that can give modest results with just basic SEO knowledge.

Your other points are quite valid but this is nonsensical, a huge amount of massive websites which absolutely dominate in the SERPs are entirely custom designed.
 
Statistically speaking, you are absolutely right, yet, you know it as much as I do that we can make a known architecture ( as for example, wordpress) look like a custom script. That's where the beauty of us, the web developers lie :D

html or wordpress it doesn't matter, the only difference is wordpress is easy to install and change themes. You can use different plugins with wordpress and creating pages/posts is a lot easier in wp then html. Html requires uploading the changes and creating each page by hand and no plugins to automate tasks.

I think the issue raised here is with SEO and it's a known fact that Wordpress and it's plugins make a server work harder to produce the same result.
So if you have a WP install with shedloads of plugins to make the site do what a HTML site could do with pure code it will make page loading longer, therefore affecting SEO (allegedly).

True of course, for the purposes of internet marketing and SEO you're just as good going with WordPress as you are developing from scratch - it's a great CMS and I frequently recommend it to others :) Just wanted to point out that anyone seriously interested in development should try to move away from using prebuilt platforms! :)
 
For me I think that even go buy an HTML5 template at $15 bucks and customize it as your client want feels much more professional than deliver a wordpress site (maybe its just a psychological manner with me since I used wordpress 5 years ago when it was crappy blogging system that i was playing around as noob) and also you get much more lighter site, much more flexible, easier to edit all the SEO tags and in last point you can easily develop a simple custom cms system to create html5 pages if the client asking for a cms.

For most cases these type of webistes VS wordpress website are much better in all aspects.

To OP. You can't compare WordPress vs HTML5. If you are talking about having a dynamic site rather than a static site that is a different talk point. But WordPress is an engine, just like joomla, magento, opencart, and many others. All of them communicate with your browser trough HTML.

HTML5 is a protocol to transmit data across the internet. It's a global language.

You can do alot of stuff with wordpress, but keep in mind is the most targeted by hackers because poor coded plugins.

Technically HTML5 is a new language specification for HTML, but many other new technologies have been thrown under the HTML5 umbrella, which has turned HTML5 into a nebulous collection of technologies rather than any one thing in particular. For those of you who remember the Web 2.0 craze, HTML5 could be considered Web 3.0.Some of the flashier technologies included under the HTML5 umbrella allow us to do things like 3D user interfaces and manipulate the users webcam. While these are all amazing and groundbreaking for the web, none of them are purely "HTML5". They are HTML5 used in conjunction with other new technologies.

So what is HTML5 then? The major contribution of HTML5, on its own, is that it allows us to further define the meaning of our content. In fact, HTML5 goes beyond meaning and allows us to define the intent of our content. Let me repeat that again, because this is the true importance of HTML5.
 
So after reading all the posts, I assume the original question was "out of bounds" as WP produce HTLM.

Check the W3C at w3.org recommendations to get what HTML5 is.

Assuming the quetsion was Wordpress or Static Site, then I use the latter for some sites with almost no content change.
For site + blogging, flat file CMS or static site generator are quite good actually, especially to limit the SEO footprint.
