You mean they make search queries with bots and Google is somehow oblivious to this? From all 3 steps, generating fake bot searches is the only way I see this working in theory and I wouldn't bet that it is easy. That is probably why Ahrefs don't want to rely on Google's data, because their data is probable the least accurate and vulnerable to manipulations of them all, but they got a lot of data so they have to be included of course

My theory on this is that, if you want to fake google search volume, you know where to go. You go to google.com and figure out how to make searches with bots. Hard but doable - sure. Bu then you need to know where else Ahrefs buys search volume data. From numerous browser extension and you need to install them all, or guess which one it is? Hard to know the full list of sources and I doubt they'll reveal it. The question remains, can we at least switch Google data off in Ahrefs and only observe the accumulate app/extension reported data for volume and look for large differences between those and Google's?

Ahrefs calls their secondary search volume source "Clickstream" data. Very obscure, no links, just claims how it is anonymized and collected from reputable apps. No app lists as well. Good luck faking that without internal knowledge how Ahrefs operates.

I am really enjoying this fake transparency. I guess these 2 providers are gone, since article is from 2016, but Ahrefs linked to it in their 2019 article: https://ahrefs.com/blog/keywords-explorer-3-0/

Yeah of course, I wasn't saying that the sites OP posted are faked or anything. I am just thinking out loud about how these numbers could be faked, since so many people seem to believe they are easily faked.

Spam works. Using your brain and few minutes with ahrefs and excel can give you a lot of examples. Scraped content doorway pages, variables etc. A lot of automatization, a lot of domains (i am not talking about backlinks/pbn) can make a lot of money.

I have around 90 live websites (50 made in this month) in just one niche, currently I am only in this niche,working on it from beggining this year. Currently 40 websites making around 4m organic users monthly and they are growing every day.

Also have 3 more niche where I am doing seo spam. All that with 0 links, only content.

Last google update make some good work on clean up search (not mine porjects, they are all alive), but what I can see they are getting back with new domains and same methods.

To work on spam it takes experienece, a good developer ( i call my dev sdd ( spam driven developer), good mindset for spam and some small writing skill).

I will gather more data on monday/tuesday and publish them here, like who.is, wayback machine, date of articles, how many and when were posted, backlinks etc. etc. and list of questions that need to be answered to figure out what they are doing.

Volume is a tricky indicator in Ahrefs-like tools. For example in movies niche it overestimates volume in cases of most movies that are like 1 year old or so. But overall it's a solid info for us what to target for, especially if we want to target low competetive longtails

Not yet but will stick my affiliate number up since this is local. I only do local stuff now. The real money is in keywords not found on Ahrefs etc. that's why I love local. It's huge and majority of keywords/niches people will never find or ignore because they only see 10 searches per month.

I'm thinking of reviving this site with a huge near me test. LMK if anyones interested in a journey thread. I'm thinking over 2000+ near me home improvement terms ranked with spam.

each website had multiple backlinks from a single page, used for multiple instances. For example: you have site a,b,c. your backlinks come from x, y, z. both a, b & c have for example 1k links coming from both x,y & z

Update on the Ahrefs traffic reliability to address the notion that it is easy to fake the organic traffic numbers. I asked them about it and support told me they don't share with customers who their "Clickstream" data provider is and that there is no way to see volume for only this data source in their UI.

There is no option to see our organic traffic estimates only from this data source, excluding google keyword planner data for volume.

Imo, there can't be that many providers out there as the data has to come from a small-ish number of top apps and extensions. If they were dealing with millions of apps, it would be hard to keep it all under wraps. We are keep getting told how our data is sold, but it is surprisingly hard to find any direct references to how, for how much and by/to who. They like to keep it out of the public eye.

And that's a sad fact. The right to see what data a particular organisation holds on you should be a basic human right in the 21st century, but that would be problematic for the biggest companies (Cambridge Analytica data scandal case)

I think it is a perfectly valid business model to monetize users who want free stuff. I understnad they are keeping it hidden because the media keeps pumping the average joes (pun intended) with corpo-hate-news and entitlement. They have to pay, one way or another, they can't except free stuff and provide nothing in return. I am only interested in this because I am trying to understnad better how Ahrefs works internally and while I can't guess their exact algorithms, I think I'll eventually figure out a few possible data providers they may be using.

I don't want to derail this to CA talks, but that case was BS, because this forum is full of people who collected way more info from Fb apps back in the app-golden-days, than any individual company that found themselves amidst a privacy scandal ever did. I remember when it was hot shit to do email opt-ins this way or the spammy apps that virally spread your fan page, because users just couldn't help themselves and had to click everything in sight. At some point, we got to start blaming the consumers, if they keep getting in troubles due to their own naivety, stupidity and greed.

Now schmeck gave us an example url, I've been seeing these types of site for the last few months that are always dominating the 1st page of Google. It's so easy to see that they are at 10 out of 10 for spam, yet Google isn't catching that. Yes, Google is not as smart as they say and there are ways around it.
I absolutely need to get this. Someone help me with the 1st step to get this please.
