Hi all,

I've been playing around with lorem ipsum on and off with pretty decent success. I started a new site few months back that's picked up traction but unfortunately has some issues with cannibalization. Since the sites aged a few months I've decided to use this site for this test (have deleted all pages).

Inspired by some threads here on BHW about spam and lead gen etc. (the sector I'm in) and some time on my hands I thought I'd try something fun. Over the years I've collected a pretty good database of local home improvement niches and keywords. Ranking for near me isn't as easy nowadays as it used to (simply because Google will show actual local results) but many lower competition niches still are dominated by big directory pages with near me terms. I thought I'd grab a bunch of near me terms some of these directories are ranking for (plus my own keywords/niches I've been using over the past couple years).

After amassing a list of ~8,000 home improvement near me terms I added some basic filters to remove some terms I don't want to target. I then ran the ~5,000 keywords left for all in title results and sticking with anything <150. I'm a fan of AIT as well as other search operators and whilst I usually manually check every AIT for search intent I'm clearly not doing that with the 2,500 keywords left. There's a lot of similar keywords so canibilzation will be an issue but there's also plenty of unique and interesting niches and long tail keywords. The point of this journey is scale and speed so I'm not wasting time manually checking every keyword.

For content I spun up 500 words of lorem ipsum then ran through WordAi to create spintax etc. I've built the site on WordPress using a mass page tool (pointless sharing the plugin name as it's no longer available to purchase as devs. want to focus on existing users). I inserted keyword 10 times randomly in the article then generated all 2,496 pages. I've just listed every page on the homepage to help with crawling etc. and if I send links I can send them to the homepage to filter through. I've gone and deleted some pages already from keywords that I don't like. I'll likely continue to delete pages as and when I find ones I don't like. Down to ~2,300 pages. This site, if my back of the envelope maths is right, should have over a million words of content on it now.

Just added sitemap again and submitted 400 random pages to Omega Indexer. I may go through the list and start removing duplicates etc. but idk if I can be bothered since it will take me so long. Just going to see how the site does.

Now What?

Now I'm just going to wait few days/weeks and see how well this stuff indexes/ranks. My main interest with this test is not necessarily to rank (although that would be nice) but to gather data. If I can find some new niches that are popular (impressions) and seemingly low competition (rank top 50) I'll be happy. I can then take this vast amount of data and discover new niches, some of which if they appear decent I'll likely make proper sites from. I might throw some cheap links at this site if it looks like it's gaining traction.

If the site starts getting traffic I can monetize with the affiliate network I'm with and if particular pages are performing well I'll likely write some decent content and make a nice landing page and use an overlay plugin so I can have a chance at converting traffic into leads.

I've got a good feeling about this site. I know lorem ipsum and spun content in general still works very well with Google. These keywords are pretty niche/longtails so I suspect they should index/rank fairly well.

Bottom line, I'm not expecting to make money with this site necessarily, the main goal will be harvesting a lot of valuable data which I can then use. If I can rank and get some traffic I'll try and monetize it.

Feel free to post ideas, comments and questions below. I'd love to hear insights and ideas etc.

Great study and write-up, enjoyed reading it and will definitely be following your progress, I like your approach and got a couple ideas from this so thanks for taking the time to share, good luck! :)

I am going to follow this, will you be monetizing the traffic?

This looks very interesting! Are you goint to cloak the lorem ipsum for human visitors?

If I get traffic then yes, I have a tracking number and embed forms so it's not super hard to down the line. The network I work with has huge coverage in both geo and niche.

Will probs use some sort of overlay like this plugin. I have templates I use for landing pages with Elementor Pro so I can just use those as an overlay and write decent copy and insert images etc. so it looks like a nice page/site.

I'm not expecting to drive much traffic etc. if I do that's awesome, the value is in the data for me (which I can use for other projects). If ranks look good I will have some fun with links though.

Just don't have any footprints at all to any other sites you are connected with, because if the big G hit you they'll hit all your sites.
Ask my friend Kyle Roof about this after he made them look like chumps.

Good point. I always use new phone numbers and I can spin disclaimers etc. I'll likely make a new landing page template just to be safe. Did Kyle's sites all get screwed?

His Lorem Ipsum site inspired me last year to test if Lorem Ipsum was still working. I made a site last Oct. and the sites been stable ever since. I've been doing some house cleaning with domains/hosting so deleted about a month back but it hit all time best ranks (no links built). Pretty funny considering we've had some significant updates and I've had white hat sites get pummeled.

Update

Stuff is slowly starting to index. I probably won't be updating too much as it's going to take few weeks to start getting data etc.

Why are you using lorem ipsum instead of article forge or other auto content creation software?

I wanted the quickest way to do this site. Since I've got a plugin that spins and generates pages with Lorem Ipsum I just added spintax and inserted keyword spintax and it generated 2,000+ pages I needed. I like working with Lorem Ipsum because it's total nonsense and seeing it rank is rather fun.

Definitely following! Have heard almost nothing about mass page. Have 3 friends that use for affiliate marketing and make huge bank. Getting started myself.

Very fun journey! Never seen Loren Ipsum method before. It sounds really easy, so I'm curious about the results.

make a nice landing page and use an overlay plugin so I can have a chance at converting traffic into leads.
Is there a reason why you choose overlay plugin instead of doorway?

I'm curious how many impressions OP got right now

Hi all,

I'm finally getting a little more time to work on these projects.

The sites aged fairly nicely now. Unfortunately been having some server issues so lots of stuff getting de indexed etc. I've also noticed this past year indexing has been really hard (even on legitimate sites not spam like this test).

I'm working on fixing server issue to get the site back and recently tested a new indexing service here on BHW. Once I've tidied the site up I'll whack some pages through the index tool as a test. Unfortunately if I want to index every page it's going to take me like $200 lol whilst I'd like to I'd rather focus my money on legitimate projects for now but perhaps in the future I'll just see if I can get them all indexed.

I'm excited to get some data back. Testing niches and keywords has been my main focus this past year and I truly believe it's the best thing marketers can do. I've uncovered some interesting keywords and niches this way.
