Shopify have tightened their KYC pretty hard lately, especially when a payment account was previously restricted.

If the selfie keeps failing across devices, it usually means one of these:

Mismatch between your ID + what’s on the Shopify account (name, DOB, country, address etc.)
Lighting / glare / camera focus issues they’re VERY strict on facial clarity
VPN/proxy or flagged IP even your ISP routing can trigger checks
Previous account association if the old restricted account shares details, that can auto-flag verification
Multiple attempts already failed the system may temporarily lock the flow

What usually works:

Use a neutral background + bright front lighting

Clean the camera lens + avoid selfie beauty filters

Try a different browser (Chrome → Firefox)

Turn OFF VPNs / adblockers

Use the same exact address + name format as the ID

Wait 24–48 hours between failed attempts

If the account has already been reviewed/flagged before verification, support may need to reset the KYC flow manually. Opening a ticket and requesting a reset often helps.

Creating multiple new stores after a payment restriction is usually ineffective, as Shopify Payments still links back to the same individual/legal entity in the background.

I’d stop retrying for now and let support respond. Repeated failed attempts can make it worse.

Hope you get it sorted, they’ve been really strict lately.

i see , some people have suggested opening a romanian shopify account as it supposedly does not have this same kyc issue , is this false ?
Nah that “Romanian Shopify account avoids KYC” talk is lowkey a myth - Shopify still runs the same risk rules + payments checks everywhere, EU included. Setting up a shop with a Romanian bill/identity doesn’t magically skip review, it just shifts you into EU regs which can even be tighter.

Payments behavior + admin access patterns matter way more than country. If you spin up accounts from sketchy IPs, weird fingerprints, random VPNs + start selling ASAP, you’ll still trigger review no matter the locale.

Clean device + stable IP for admin, legit business details + sane traffic + sales curve is the practical angle. Don’t treat a Romanian billing address as some KYC bypass.

ive made around 5-10 different accounts in the past 2 months which all got banned before i got my first payout from them. most get stuck on id verification which holds payouts and does not verify even though i have the id .
i will now try with a fresh id and fresh device .
have you had this set up working recently ?

yeah I’ve had it working recently but only after stopping the churn behavior - Shopify flags patterns more than single accounts. If you burned 5-10 stores in 2 months you’re already in a high risk bucket, fresh ID helps but fresh device + clean IP + time gap matters more, otherwise you just relink yourself.

What fixed it for me was one store only, admin logins from same machine + same residential IP, no VPN hopping, slow launch with low volume first payout. If you recreate and push sales fast again you’ll hit the same ID loop regardless of how clean the docs are.

How low do you mean by low volume for first payout . I was building up around £500-£800 before the first payout .
Also with a fresh device but in the same location with 5g would that be ok ?

£500-£800 first payout is already high risk for a fresh store in their eyes - I keep it sub £200, even £100 if possible, boring products + low refund risk. 5G same location is fine as long as it stays consistent, don’t flip between wifi + mobile + VPN like a maniac. Pattern they want is normal human store - slow ramp, same device, same IP, same behavior for weeks, not payout speedrun.

I made an account fresh phone fresh person , id was successfully verified this time , got message thy payouts were unpaused , then 2 hours later store was terminated .
Everything was fresh
