Running a business without education

Running a business with education or without education?
Business education is indeed necessary to run a business. Business education here doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a formal education , it just means you keep getting updated with the required information to run your chosen business. You need to know the ins and outs of any business to be successful in it.

It's not necessary to have a business education in order to start a business, but in order to run a successful business for any length of time, it really is necessary to either get a formal business education or undertake your own "on the job" training. I would say having a formal education gives you a straighter path to success, as it allows you to research and understand your market well, minimise risk, maximise profit and jump through all the regulatory and financial hurdles that are part of being in business. You can still get there without a formal education - absolutely - but you have a head start if you know what you're talking about to begin with.

The most successful person I know quite college when he learned what his income potential was when he completed school. He is extremely entrepreneurial and ambitious. I also know many people with sucessful careers that are highly educated.

In my opinion if you euntrapuenral and extremely ambitious, higher education will not do much for you. But if you unable to be sucessful running you own business you will need that higher education to give you a chance at being a high paid employee.

What school did you go to? All I ever done was get punished for thinking "differently" in formal education 9/10 you have to conform and stick to the script to get ahead I think that's why most business owners tend to do well as they can think for them selfs.

Not sure what you mean about getting an education once you start a business - your always learning. If you are not learning your are not working. Just because it's not in a class room does not mean you are getting an education..

For me I done I shit in school, I went to college and done OK. I went to uni and I dropped out before graduating. I've made millions and lost millions. I don't think having a degree would have helped me make that money any differently or loose it any differently.

What I will say is "learning" isn't for everyone I'm not a paper, note taking, number crunching, learning from a book person. I need to get my hands involved and learn from my own trial and error and experience. I also think if education is applied to people differently it might have more of an impact. I failed my maths exam 8 times over I hated percentages and doing any kind of mathematics... As soon as I started to make money and needed to work out profit and loss my learning totally changed. And I can now count past 10 ;)

I always remember in school when you saw a guy resting a ladder by a wall and you had to work out the angle it was at... I could never under stand that I used to write "as long as I don't fall it don't matter" I've never had to calculate the angle when resting a ladder to a wall since and I've climbed and fallen off a few since...

I know it's just a visual example for them to help you learn calculating angles etc but it's a shit example for them to use.

Depends on the institutions I guess. Currently doing my Master's as well.

Personally, it is also useful to have a formal education if you want to do anything regarding projects that include government work, otherwise you just don't get the jobs.

Google "survival bias". You heard the stories of successful college dropouts... but thats because they "made it". However they are 0.0000001% of the people without education who failed miserable at life, worked manual low paying back breaking jobs. Education is the most secure way to "middle" class. If you have it, even if you fail on your business ventures there is still something to fall on. Without education? Flipping burgers is what`s left for you. And the truth is that the vast majorities of businesses fail. So you can gamble your future, at really bad odds, or play safe. Your choice.
if vast majority of businessed fails and everyone decides to play it safe, who is going to take risks and create jobs? This world was build by risk takers not safe players. Even if i fail and die a miserable death, at least i gave it a try. Everyone's going to die anyway. So, why not take risks and live to the fullest?

Read Marcus Aurellius' "Meditations". Its his journal and teaches about stoicism. You will start thinking differently about life and world

I don't really know what is education? Because I dropped out of college last year but I am learning everyday on my field.

You only need experience. If you start applying or executing you will get experience.

Education is key to everything in life. School - not so much. And you can educate yourself in plenty of ways, especially in 2020.

However, a lot folks like school (college) because it basically tells them what to do. It is convenient; it is a set of things to do and rules to follow in order to get something a little bit more out of your life. And, as others have already mentioned, there is no way around college if you are trying to be qualified in fields such as medicine, law, engineering.

All that said, college does make you lean towards 'average' and 'normal'. I personally hate these words and the ideas behind them with a passion, so I dropped out right after I realized this. Although I am happy about the way things turned out for me, it is really a personal choice.

Where did I say that you shouldn't take risks? You may start reading a bit more carefully, you know? What I said is that education is your safety net if your business ventures fail (and statistically speaking there is significant chance for this to happen).

For everyone saying that "education" doesn't mean school, yeah it means exactly that. Your street/BHW/random Internet site education wont give you a diploma that will land you a cosy well paying job, again, statistically speaking.

In my opinion, education has nothing to do with business. Yes it may help with the foundation of it or you will learn things that will help you with it but in no way is the both always interconnected. Success of a business depends on you and you can learn how to buy your self. A college degree doesn't determine wether you can run a successful business or not. Any business can fail or take off wether you have an education or not.

Maybe the jewellery guy learned things in college that helped him with his business ( maybe it worked for him in his country ) but doesn't mean the same may work for him elsewhere. Education is a security and the job industry requires it to determine your capability.

By no means am I telling you to drop out / not finish your studies because that is a security you will have for the rest of your life. Definitely finish your studies and get that degree if you have the means.

But don't study with the hopes that your degree promises you a successful business in the future. That's totally on you.

As you incline more towards who you really are, you won't give shit the stupidity, scam and damage which society foists on us as norms.

There is a difference between self-education and formal education indeed.

But nobody mentions majors when it comes to formal education.

Personally, I’m about to graduate a Bachelor’s Degree for Human Resources. This is considered “easy” major in my university.

I have always wanted a university diploma as a backup plan if all else fails.

In the last few years, I worked hard and learned a lot - both from books, videos, forums, courses, podcasts AND university.

Surely, 80% of what is being taught in university will be unapplicable for me.

The beauty of self-education is that you have unlimited options - you can study whatever you want, from wherever you want, for as long as you want.

In university, you get to pick from a few subjects and you’re forced to study exactly this, from exactly that textbook for exactly 1 semester.

And I can proudly say in the last 4 years I learned things about Human Resources that I will apply to my businesses in the future. Not much, but still something.

Formal education can be helpful when starting a business, but it really depends on the person, the goals, the major and of course the business.

Marketing graduate will have an advantage starting a marketing agency over someone who hasn’t studied marketing at all - if all other factors are equal.

But by no means school education has a heavy impact on your chances of success or failure. You can fail with it and succeed without it.

Dunno... Depends on what job you refer to really... I think most government roles are down to who you know more than your education background.. I've had plenty of work from the government just down to who I know more than anything else. "Education" tho is role specific id rather have a fully educated and qualified doctor vs some guy who spent 6 months on youtube BUT then when you look at some of the scandals or issues that come out from "professionals" I don't think id be any worse off...

when starting a business your self educating your self as your doing business.

the quistion very odd .

I think the man meant get a full school education incase doing business fails.

backup plan make sence .

I don't think they're such thing as uneducated while doing business sorry.

dont think uneducated even really exists we all learn somethink everyday

why would you need a college education to install tiles or mow lawns, the amount of dumbasses ive seen locally making money with their businesses is astonishing

people act like running a business is the hardest thing on planet earth and you will fail
