Yes but then some people are just happy doing that. My wife for example works in education is a deputy head and is training to become a head teacher.. She also runs a consulting business on the site and a training company the stress she has chasing people for payment she's going to finish both the site line business (they both bring in a mid 5 figure income a year) but the stress for her is simply not worth it.
Many would agree as well and some just want a pay cheque go on holiday, save up money and retire. People are happy with just that.
Calling the shots as well that's another thing totally not everyone can be a leader. Not all cope with pressure working for your self is a high pressured task. IT get's much worse if you have bills, family, kids all depending on you most crack under that pressure and worse still many don't recover.
I think everyone is different and that's life if we where all the same it would be boring.
I also think if you want to work, you work, some are just happy doing the same old thing day in day out and that's OK. It's not on us to judge

Self Employed or Working for someone else or not working at all... as long as you are happy that's all that matters.
