Ranking for KD: 62 Keyword Without Backlinks - SEO Confusion

There is a valuable keyword in my niche which shows 62 of Keyword Difficulty with 1800 monthly searches in US and 6000 global searches (according to Ahrefs).

I've checked top ranked 10 pages and 8 of them have articles less than 600 words. And the Wikipedia (Position: 1) page has 821 words and the other article (Position: 9) has 988 words. And all the articles have a lot of backlinks. And the DA (Domain Authority) of all the sites is higher than 45.

My site has only 6 DA, and I'm hoping to write 3000 word useful article for this keyword. Even if I'm so familiar with my niche, the article needs a lot of research. So, it seems it'll take almost a week for me to complete the article.

And I've no budget for link building and I'm afraid that my hard work will be wasted.

What should I do? Have you done any case studies on such scenarios?
 
Advertise on BHW
Don't go just by the KD score, manually look at the top 10 sites.
 
You'll need more links for sure but covering the topic in more depths and matching the content better will make most difference.

3000 words might not be a good call if average is 900. More isn't merrier with content, unless you avoid fluff and do 3000 words of pure info.
 
are there any forums or social media sites on top 10?

The quality of the articles are pretty good. Since the keyword has an affiliate value, it seems they have manually created a lot of backlinks. Even I'm going to write a longer article, most of its' content won't be useful for ordinary readers.

And there is an one year old 2400 word article on the second page. Even if the article is longer, it's not content rich. [it does not have much information, but a boring viewpoint of the author]

True, those articles are enough for an average reader. So, my content will be only useful to some engineering students in a specific field. May be it's not worth it.

If you bring something new to the table and search engines recognize that, that fact alone can play to your advantage big time.

Also, if the featured snippet is present or for some similar keyword, optimize the page for that as well. It's your chance at #0 spot.
