Ranking a Site in a Very Small Niche

Hey guys, so I've got a lot of experience in certain areas mostly social media but one thing I really don't know too much about is SEO tactics used here and how they work for ranking a site. Let's say there was a really small company in x niche that was in a very small city (less than 100k population), just how difficult would it be to outrank the competition who likely outsource their SEO and website work. We can assume anything the competition is doing is easy ascess, widely known, and costs a lot of money to do.

Would it be expensive, and what kind of options are there. Anyone who could provide more info this there could be a lot of potential business for you here but it needs to be safe and legimate as it is for a real business.

What kind of search volume are we talking here?

And are you trying to rank your actual site or your Google My Business listing in the local pack?

Firstly you find search volume of your niche, based on your local area. Then you must analyze your competitor. Then you have to need good plan for site article, proper Optimization and some other facts. Local site ranking is not vary difficult but you have to need a proper plan.

Both if possible, just so that it would be capturing 90% of the customers searching those terms and just going for the top results.

Ok thanks for explaining things a bit, I can't find any free services that offer keyword analysis unless you guys can link me to some but we are talking less than a thousand searches each keyword in a month. Unless we branch out to nearby major cities most of these keywords would be searched a few hundred times per month max.
