Hey BHW,

I love this place, I'm learning a lot of stuff. I have a question about Exact Match Domains.

I'm creating a site which I want to rank for several keywords one of which would be something like tennis tutorial

tennistutorial[dot]com (or .org or .net) isn't available but both onlinetennistutorial and online-tennistutorial are available.

My question is which of those domains would be better to rank for the keyword "tennis tutorial" or would both be the same. I thought maybe the dash would mean more since "tennis tutorial" is the keyword i want to rank best for. Does it even make a difference?

Thanks!

online-tennistutorial Is nice beacuse it is more readable. I would go with that one

if you are just starting i would suggest looking for a exact match domain avaliable, really helps to rank.

I would go without the dash. Just my personal preference, I don't like dashes in my domains. I'm pretty sure you can rank both of those domains though, so its really up to you.

You watching federer djokovic right now man?? Awesome tennis

thanks for the help guys!

Once last thing,

If tennis-tutorial[dot]net was available would you choose that over all the rest?

Cool! Thanks a lot everyone. Much appreciated.

Got some good answer guys. Thanks and i have another question If tennistutorial[dot]co/info was available would you choose that over all the rest?

.COM is generally better to register.

If not .COM, then go for .ORG.

I personally don't like .info and I think they are a little harder to rank than .COM or .Org

But just my 2 cents

If .com, net .and .org I prefer to add e letter like etennistutorial.com. I think its more easier to rank than onlinetennistutorial.com and online-tennistutoruial.com.

If you want me to select onlinetennistutorial.com and online-tennistutoruial.com I would select onlinetennistutorial.com.

.COM is always the best, you should always try to get it first.

Then .ORG + .NET are about even I would say in ranking.

Then .US IMO

Then .info

I'm sure everyone is aware of this but i'll go ahead a say it anyway:

exact match domains are extremely valuable when trying to rank for your keyword, why? because the search engines see that keyword in every single link that you obtain, whether it be internal or external. It is like getting a keyword anchor text link even if your anchor text is completely different.

The thing is that Google is getting smarter and a resent study by SEOmoz has shown that anchor text keywords are not as effective as ranking as they once was, and I can assure you that it is the same case for keyword domains.

I believe as an SEO practitioner we should be looking at methods that will work now and in the future rather than methods that worked in 2005.

Interesting read!

Thank you for providing this link. :pirate:

EMDS are extremely valuable, the hardest part is finding a good one that isn't taken or a premium domain :)

Based on my current experience using EMD, some of my site are on top 10 and some in top100 even wordpress are only installed with no contents and no backlinks. This proved that EMD is still very powerful.

You should definitely put the stopword behind your keword.
So for this example it would be tennistutorialonline.tld

There was a huge guide on seomoz about that if i remember, im wondering why the others are advising you to go with a stopword infront of the keyword...

I was wondering the same thing about simply adding "e" or a "1" in front of the EMD and would it produce the same results.

ie: tennistutorial0com
or 1tennistutorial0com

How much different are these. I have a site in a terrible niche, hell it is not a niche anymore. Anyway when doing my research one of my competitors has a 1xxxxxxx0com and is ranking in the top 5 in all keywords.

Albeit he has outstanding content and I am sure after looking at that, he must have excellent SEO. So I cant really use that as a comparison.

What are your opinions on simply adding one letter or a number. Personally I think the number is more or less a null field. IMO

thx.

Everybody we know that EMD is so much effective but how much it effective your other TLD like .co.uk/ .de/ .co/ .in/ .me ? What do you guys think ?
