As my 100th post I thought I'd share a method that I used a few months ago--which I'm planing on doing again soon (just been a bit tied up with too many things lately).
This method isn't something unique but it will make you money. It won't get saturated easily because people are too lazy to implement IMO.
So... I decided to promote the Google Biz Op offers you see in just about every CPA network paying between $32-$40 per lead. Since this type of offer can't be promoted with Adwords, and is a pain in the ass to get targeted quality traffic from other platforms I decided to see if I can get any success promoting this offline.
And here is what I did...
(1) I targeted a suburban neighborhood to start with
(2) Looked for local flyer/postcard printing and distribution companies
(3) Decided to go with postcards since flyers get bundled with other junk and people are less likely to notice the ad
(4) Designed a postcard myself and had the distribution company print and distribute it for me
I'll get to what the postcard contained in a sec...
First lets talk about the costs...
The cost will vary depending on the local area you are targeting. For me the cost was around $0.11 per postcard to be printed and distributed, which isn't too bad.
I decided to do a test run with 10,000 postcards so the cost was ~$1,100
Now, you can save some money if you just get the printing done and have the postcards distributed by some high school kids and pay them in alcohol and cigarettes (kidding). Basically kids are cheaper than hiring companies. I was too lazy to try and save a little since this was just a test anyways.
Now going back to what's on the card...
The card was in color and double sided.
As for the content, you want to make the person that picks it up and read it, instead of throwing it away. How do you do that? Easy.. Don't make it look like an Ad. Try to make it look personal, or try to make it look like it's important
Since this was just a test method for me, and I don't think you would be competing against me (because I won't tell you which city/neighborhood I targeted), I'll tell you what was on my postcard....
Better yet, I'll show you what my post card looked like:
Notice that there is an "expiry date". This gives it a sense of urgency to the reader. Instead of putting it off to the side, they think "ok this will expire, so I better do it now". It's kind of like a utility bill, because there is a due date you know you need to get it done before the due date.
The Landing Page...
Here is where you can really bank some continuous money. What I did was make a site that was being promoted on the postcard. This site was an amateur looking site and it had an opt-in box where the visitor had to enter their "invitation code". This works well since the visitor is more likely to fill in the information and "log-in" to the system to get their "freebie" with their "invitation code"
Now, since they opted-in, you now are building a list at the same time! They may or may not get the free Biz Kit at that time. But since you have them on your opt-in, you remind them with followup emails, and you keep sending them other offers such as clickbank offers for get paid to do survey type of sites.
Remember you should not promote general IM products to these people. They are not as advanced, since they are responding to this offer OFFLINE. They don't know how to build websites, neither do they think they can. So simple offers like "make money on google" or "get paid to do surveys" etc will work well with these offline people.
Note: For obvious reason I can't share my landing page. But you should get a good idea of what you need on the page.. just basically a simple page with an opt-in box with "name", "email address", and "password" or "invitation number" to make it seem like it's exclusive. Then either redirect to the offer, or have to another pre-sell page. At this point it doesn't matter since you already have their email address.
The Conversions...
The conversions would vary obviously depending on the demographics of the area you target. I got a little less than one percent conversion.. it was 0.7%, so thats 70 people that converted out of 10,000 people.
The cost per lead was $32 for me, so that's $2,240 in commissions. Which is a net profit of $1,140. Not bad huh? The best part is that I have also build a decent list at the same time, so you can be sure that I'll be promoting more offers to them in the future.
This landing page approach offer works well since you are building a list that you can always promote to, assuming you keep a good relationship with the subscribers. You have a "super noob" list to promote offers to. As far as the're concerned YOU are their Guru. So be a good offline Guru and go make some money!
