New Blockchain Site to Compete with Youtube: Steemit

I was reading about a ton of alternative media channels on YouTube getting shut down, and as I was inwardly raging about the blatant censorship on the site, I read with the article there's a new contender to YouTube: Steemit https://steemit.com/

You can post, comment, and receive money via blockchain with no possible censorship.

In addition to getting your opinion on how successful this could be, I also wanted to share a site that might help others here monetize their content...

It's best to just join it. I've been messing around with it and it's pretty cool. You're paid in STEEM which you can use to make your account more influential, or you can liquidate into USD/EURO/GBP/etc via transferring it to an exchange and selling it off.

One other thing worth noting, new STEEM enters the system each year which causes dilution. This means that it's basically twice as hard next year to become as influential as it would be if you started this year. Just food for thought. The early adopters of this site will be the market makers.

is there any limit to the amount of posts I can make? Also can I just use other people's content by giving them credit?

There are limits that are algorithmically based, but the chances of you hitting those are extremely low. As your SteemPower (authority) builds, those limits increase. There is a limit on your ability to upvote, it's called "voting power" and it decays with each vote and rebuilds with time. You get 20% of your voting power back each day. So if you blow it all at once, it will take 5 days to get back to 100%.

You should not use other peoples' content without substantially adding your own value to it and giving credit to sources. It's not enough to copy/paste and add attribution. There are bots that people have made which attempt to locate copied content.

There is no "minimum payout." Basically, you write a post and people vote on it. If you get votes worth money, then that money will be paid to your account in STEEM. That STEEM then makes your account more influential. You can choose to take that STEEM out of your account and turn it into your local currency, but if you do, then your account's influence drops by the amount you take out.

You also earn by "curating" content (voting and "resteeming" good content). It's important to not vote on content that has already gone to the moon. The first vote on a post gets more of the payout than the 2nd vote, which gets more of the payout than the 3rd vote, which gets more of the payout than the n.. vote.
