Many of these kinds of social site turned out to be scams, this one seems a bit different, but still seems ponzi to me.

I love the design. Like many other SaaS startups websites that are popping up recently.

Great idea. But creator needs something to make this platform stands out.

Too many of these websites have popped up recently, and have got users weary of them. But i'll advice you to NOT take our opinion of this website. if your gut says go, then do so. Not in 5 months time, you'll regret it.

So it's like a complicated version of Reddit where a portion of the generated revenue is shared with the contributors. Certainly a nice way to attract people and grow quickly in a very tough market.

Gonna contribute a bit and see if it's worth it, at worst it's a loss of some time.

Hey all,

I signed up for Steem on https://steemit.com?r=robrigo last weekend, but I've been following the development of the underlying platform for a while now. https://github.com/steemit/steem is using a modified version of the https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene, all open source. You can check out the block explorer https://steemd.com/, and the whitepaper http://steem.io/SteemWhitePaper.pdf describing the consensus model and economics. There's been a lot of work put in into making this a reality.

Just wanted to provide some additional resources if you decide you want to check it out. Say hi in the https://steemit.com/steemit/@ranko-k/discussion-thread-about-steemit-at-blackhatworld-forum that pointed me here.

Peace,

Rob

Question: how do your posts get value? I've just written and posted something that's gotten 10 upvotes already but it still indicates $0.00 - does it just take time?

In Steem, your vote has more influence if you have more Steem Power (vesting STEEM). Steemians with more SP in their wallet (this is publicly viewable from the account page) can positively influence the payout of a post by upvoting for it, or negatively influence by flagging it (this is meant to be used to combat spammy behavior or bad etiquette).

Check out this explainer post discussing Steem and how an analogy can be drawn to the way a power plant works for a better "layman" description of the moving parts. The whitepaper has more details about the economics behind it as well.

Haven't put a dime and earned over $200 on steemit. Steem is a cryptocurrency like bitcoin and people give it it's value. Whether it goes up or down depends on the people trading it.

Starting a steemit upvote group - PM me if you are interested.
